Free kibbles

G8 agrees to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2050 to curb global warming. If implemented, this will significantly hurt economic development and make us less capable of adapting to inevitable climate change. As always, the poor would be suffer disproportionately.

Russian spies at Cold War levels. That's because Russia and China are waging a new Cold War of Terror against us. The evidence is overwhelming, and we better acknowledge the situation. It's popular to say that the world changed on 9/11 because after 9/11 we're not as safe. That's exactly backwards. We're safer now because we've acknowledged the threat. We need to do the same so we can be safer from China and Russia.

Putin suggests alternate site for missile shield - a former Soviet Republic no less. This distracts from the real problem - Putin doesn't want Europe to be safe from nuclear missiles. I bet Putin has plans on stealing the technology, and that's why he chose Azerbaijan.

North Korea launches short range missiles. The Bush administration appears surprised that NK is doing what NK always does. As if NK would be our best bud now that Bush paid the bribe.

Iran caught red-handed shipping weapons to the Taliban. We'll do nothing.

UK paid Saudi Prince, the ambassador to the US, secret payments for negotiating arms deal.

Guest worker amendment may kill the Senate immigration bill. Let's hope.

Human rights group challenges US on prisoners held in secret prisons.

Mass circumcision proposed to combat AIDS in Africa.

I don't like putting celebrity news in here, but I think Paris Hilton's early release from prison qualifies on other grounds.

Charges dropped against woman for making faces at police dog.

What is a libertarian foreign policy?

Dam the Salmon. This article is subscription only by the Wall Street Journal, but I'm posting this link in hopes Reason will reprint it.

Why the Guantanamo judges dismissed charges. If only our elected officials were so principled.

McCain backer quits campaign over immigration bill. What we're seeing is a long overdue split of conservatives from Republicans. This shows that conservatives, unlike liberals, have a point where they stop drinking the kool-aid. This is why conservatives are not quite as dangerous as liberals. Tancredo launches "defeat amnesty" campaign. It's not on Drudge right now. Bush claims hispandering is good for his party. That's a terrible excuse for any policy, and there's no reason to believe it's true. Senate defeats amendment that would block illegal alien felons from gaining legal status. The immigration bill is dead!

Mitt Romney calls for the repeal of McCain-Feingold. Why is he the only one?

Democratic insiders have turned against John Edwards.

Slate on the 3rd Republican debate.

Google maps shows woman's underwear. What in the world is Google thinking? They're on top of the world, and this is going to bring them incredible negative publicity for no gain.

The Spurs GM Buford is the best in the league.

Cato cuts through the bologna about warming in Greenland. It's minor, as is the melting of the ice sheet. Greenland and the Medieval Warming Period.

Victor Davis Hanson says we made many mistakes on D-Day and retaking Europe, but you don't stop fighting because you make mistakes.

Skin cells can be transformed into embryonic stem cells. Wow. Despite the success of stem cell research without federal funds and knowing the divisiveness of the embryonic stem cell research, Congress has decided to force all Americans to pay for stem cell research. Stupid.

Voters frustrated with both parties. No kidding.

Article makes ridiculous claim that the Constitution doesn't grant the government power to control immigration. How do people get away with lying like that? The Constitution grants Congress power "to establish a uniform rule of naturalization". That means controlling immigration. Good discussion of economics, but it completely ignores security concerns.

Excepts from Reagan's diary.

Article claims US is starting this Cold War. This article forgets to mention we aren't threatening Russia; they're actively working against us all over the world. Ironically, the article begins with a quote from Sun Tzu, who's philosophy on war China has been following when waging its current Cold War of Terror against us. We aren't starting a Cold War. China, which allied with Russia in the last few years, has been waging the Cold War of Terror against us since Clinton took office.

WSJ looks at New York Times coverage of JFK plot and identifies the media, and liberal, double-standard.

Excellent essay identifying how Al Gore and environmentalists use spiritual language to promote their eco-con. More evidence global warming is just a religion.

Fred Thompson makes and excellent summary of the Libby witch-hunt, and calls for a pardon. Too bad Libby won't be able to vote for Thompson.

Ken Blackwell explains how hate crimes bill would make thought a crime. This is true of all hate crimes laws, which should be struck down as unconstitutional.

Ann Coulter talks about Ted Kennedy's stealth immigration bill from 1965. According to her, representatives decided to change the Demographic mix in America. It's hard to argue when you see the quotas it enforces. A great quote at the end:
Most immigrants still come from a handful of countries; Kennedy simply changed which countries those would be. In 2005, according to the Department of Homeland Security, the overwhelming majority of immigrants came from only 10 countries, none of which had sent a lot of immigrants to America for the country's first 200 years: Mexico (161,445), India (84,681), China (69,967), the Philippines (60,748), Cuba (36,261), Vietnam (32,784), the Dominican Republic (27,504), Korea (26,562), Colombia (25,571) and Ukraine (22,761).
In Samuel P. Huntington's book "Who Are We? The Challenges to America's National Identity," he asks: "Would America be the America it is today if in the 17th and 18th centuries it had been settled not by British Protestants but by French, Spanish or Portuguese Catholics? The answer is no. It would not be America; it would be Quebec, Mexico or Brazil."
Great essay by Walter Williams describing the morality of free markets versus the immorality of central planning.

Scientists transfer power using static electric field. This technology has been around for well over a century. I wonder why no body did this before. I worry about long-term health effects.
