Newsweek poll has Bush approval rating at 28%. That's what constant bad press will do for you. If you think Bush's poll ratings are bad now, wait until he starts really pushing his amnesty plan for illegal immigants. His ratings will approach single digits.

Fred Thompson makes an excellent argument for smaller government to help our security and prosperity. I like him more every time he makes a speech. The question is: does he mean it? Conservatives have been paying lip service to smaller government for a century, but the government has never become smaller, and we've all seen what happened when they got in power. Fred also puts foreign criticism of America in context.

The weather channel reporter on Fox news, 3:50 PM, said that authorities had declared martial law. Here's a memorial from 1957 when Kansas declared martial law after a tornado. Wikipedia says martial law was NOT declared for hurricane Katrina. Declaring martial law is a pretty outrageous step for a tornado.
