Open reply to Michael Medved

Michael Medved blames independents for Republicans' failures.

This article is the old blame the voters argument masked as a blame the independent candidates argument. Those stupid voters who vote libertarian cost the Republicans control of government.

Damn straight we did! But the stupid ones were the Republicans who deserted the libertarian mainstream of America that believes in smaller government and expects their representatives to vote for that. The mainstream of America also believes in muscular foreign policy, not this anemic, ask the U.N. permission first foreign policy, inability to deal with rogue regimes policy, and getting our troops killed because they're not allowed to kill the enemy when we engage them policy.

Republicans betrayed libertarians, and they paid the price. It's a failure of the two party system we have to suffer through Democratic leadership for our trouble, but that entrenched two party system is what Medved is arguing for. Americans deserve more than two choices, and we deserve better parties than Republicans and Democrats. But until we get there, fighting the scared, entrenched two party system, we'll hold Republicans accountable. There's nothing stupid about that.
