Dinesh D'Souza remembers that Reagan won the Cold War, despite his critics on both sides, without firing a shot. As big a Reagan fan as I am, even I didn't realize today was the anniversary of the fall of Berlin Wall. Has mainstream history already forgotten?
Bernanke reports that the economy will get worse before it gets better. Duh. Our government has been undermining our economy for nearly a century and the damage is finally more than the American people can overcome. The Fed is stuck between a recession and a plummeting dollar. Greenspan saw the writing on the wall and retired. Retail sales at 12 year low. Dollar at new record low. The consolation prize is that exports are up because of the falling dollar. The solution is to adopt the FairTax and dramatically cut spending. The dollar would quickly recover, and exports, without the current 22% embedded income tax penalty would explode. But the longer we wait, the the worse it will be, and the slower will be the recovery.
Elementary school students are being indoctrinated into Al Gore's false church of Man-made Global Warming. I wonder if they anoint them bottled water. This type of brainwashing should be illegal. These poor kids will be warped for life.
Medicaid beneficiaries are more of burden on emergency rooms than any other health care segment including the uninsured. We didn't need a study tell us that because the problem with our health care system is the people who have third party payers. They use health care resources at higher rate than people who pay for their own health care. That's just common sense, and it's why socialized medicine never works. What is staggering in this report is that 58 million Americans are on Medicaid! That's 19.3% of the population. Why in the world do we allow such a huge portion of obviously able-bodied people to suck off of Medicaid? Taxpayers also pay for Medicare for another huge number of people. And we subsidize health care for about everybody. This is why over 50% of all health care payments are paid by taxpayers. Unbelievable. We're our own worst enemy.
US General reports in the NYTimes: "American forces have routed Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia, the Iraqi militant network, from every neighborhood of Baghdad." Despite this resounding success and never learning from their past mistakes, Nancy Pelosi and Democrats once again try, tepidly instead of in their usual bellicose fashion, to force defeat on us in Iraq. Harry Reid says the violence in Iraq has dropped off because the Iraqis already killed everybody they want to kill, not because our troops are kicking ass. I'm looking forward to seeing this guy sent packing in 2010.
Michael Mukasey sworn in as new Attorney General. After his stumble in committee, that was fast.
Pakistani President Musharraf puts opposition leader Bhutto under house arrest. Lifted.
US releases 9 of 20 Iranian captives in Iraq.
Iraqis accused Muqtada al Sadr's Mahdi army of a reign of terror in a public meeting. It looks like the Iraqi people have turned on al Sadr too.
Pentagon blocks Congressional testimony of Marine prosecutor, not judge, who had learned harsh interrogation methods had been used to get information being used in the trial. The president has the responsibility to use harsh interrogation methods and waterboarding to gain intelligence to save lives, but that information can't be used in a court.
Gov. Schwartzenegger vetoes three bills that would have helped innocent people keep from being convicted.
Another Democrat tries to pretend there are differences between Republicans and Democrats by calling Bush a king and saying he's rolled back civil rights to the Middle Ages. Hyperbole much?
Does Kerik's indictment really reflect on Giuliani?
Joe Lieberman says that Democrats are beholden to politically paranoid liberal (loony left) base. Everybody knows that, but it's good to have Lieberman say it publicly.
Ron Paul's supporters are driving his campaign.
Indian women renting wombs to foreigners by carrying surrogate babies. That's innovative. As reproductive technology advances, the social consequences will be earth shaking. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
Using animal brains to control robots.
Cato says the dollar value should be determined by free markets, which it currently is. But that shouldn't stop us from understanding that government policies, titanic spending, high taxes, an archaic business unfriendly income tax that is used to buy votes, and huge debt have all led to the plummeting dollar.
Cato describes how corruption from government bureaucracies at all levels have destroyed our schools.
A hair stylist's hair is part of the advertising for the salon to the customers. You can't have a person who wears headscarf daily on a hair salon staff. This has nothing to do with religious discrimination; it's about being a successful businessperson.
SCHIP makes it easy for illegal aliens to get health insurance. I knew there was a nefarious reason Democrats brought it up for a third time.
