Free kibbles

The House starts the Obama stimulus boondoggle bidding at $825 billion. This article propagates the tax cut myth. These are government handouts (welfare) and one time tax gimmicks, not tax cuts. Pelosi calls this a "first step". Things can always get worse.

FISA court rules that warrantless wiretapping program is legal, but this article doesn't give us the relevant information because it doesn't whether this applies just during war time or all the time. It only mentions the 4th Amendment, and only to say that the amendment has an exception for foreign intelligence collection. My copy of the Constitution has no exception in the 4th Amendment. It seems to me the only way this could be legal is if the president's war powers trumped the 4th Amendment in the case of suspected enemy sympathizers, and the article fails to address this.

President Bush has declared an emergency for Barack Obama's coronation, I mean inauguration. So now government is declaring non-existent emergencies, taking our rights, for their convenience. Plus the cost of Obama's coronation, in what liberals are trying to convince us is the worst economy since the Depression (it's not), is costing over $150 million compared to Bush's $42 million in 2005. That's just crazy. Liberals attacked Bush's expensive inauguration, but they love Obama's over 3 times more expensive coronation. It was originally going to spend only $50 million. Just like Obama's campaign was crazily fiscally irresponsible, so is his government. Obama's inauguration is an energy hog.

Here we go again. Authorities remove Adolf Hitler Campbell and his Nazi-named siblings from their parents despite no reports of abuse. As warped as this family is, assuming there was no abuse, this abuse of government power is more dangerous. Suppose authorities don't like the name John next.

The US military warns that Mexico is at risk for a sudden collapse because of the drug war. So now our war on drugs is on the verge of bringing down a nation, and not just any nation, but our southern neighbor. We're not only our own worst enemy, but we're our neighbor's worst enemy as well. And don't forget the war on drugs funds the Taliban, keeping Afghanistan in a constant state of war an destabilizing Pakistan. We love to preach at Mexico to clean up its act, but we're the ones funding Mexican corruption. All in the name of putting ever more Americans in prison to satisfy the prohibitionists.

Imagine a president told us he had one policy that would simultaneously disarm the Taliban so we could win the war in Afghanistan and help Pakistan become more stable, weaken FARC and stabilize Columbia, disarm the Mexican drug cartels and stabilize Mexico, disarm the US drug gangs and allow us to take back control of our southern border to limit illegal immigration, and it would cut crime in the US in half. Oh, and it would also save us tens of billions in federal, let alone state and local, tax dollars every year. Who in their right mind would object? End the War on Drugs.

Israel kills another Hamas leader.

Reporter laments that more reporters aren't black. We can expect 4 years of articles like this.

Russia blames US for blocking gas flow to Europe through Ukraine. Right.

Why does a business owner need a permit to put a mural on his business?

Ban alert. Houston wants to ban people from parking on their own lawns. Scottish city considers banning centuries old football game for health and safety concerns.

Climate change is now an excuse for zoning laws.

Ann Coulter reminds us that veterans commit murders much less often than everybody else, even though the press (NYTimes) tries to pretend otherwise.

George Will explains how foolishly litigious parents created the situation in which student are banned from running at recess.

Republicans offer an alternative stimulus plan based on real tax cuts and restraint of federal spending. While this plan is better than Obama's, it's still a bad plan that would put us further in debt. Taxpayers must pay for every dollar the government spends, so every dollar spent is a dollar in tax (or more if borrowed). Restraint is not enough - it's a slower increase in taxes, but still an increase. You can't have tax cuts without spending cuts.

Jonah Goldberg points out how Obama is wrapping his radical leftist stimulus boondoggle in centrist rhetoric and compares it to Henry Ford saying, "You can have any color you want, as long as its black." Obama is a master of masking his radical leftist agenda in centrist rhetoric. That's how he got elected.

Obama's buddy Chicago Mayor Daley siezes land and plays tyrant to build unnecessary airport expansion.

How can a constitutional amendment be unconstitutional? It's stupid for state governments, like California and Ohio, to all a simple majority of voters to amend the Constitution. It provides an ironclad mechanism for the majority to tyrannize the minority. You get this kind of crap.

Are Republicans on drugs? In talking about hopes for Republicans, author mentions a "rising star" in the Republican party - Bush budget director and trade negotiator. So Republicans are looking to the guy who helped almost doubles the size of government and negotiated the most government controlled, obtuse trade agreements in history - all the while pretending they were "free trade agreements". After 8 years of Bush the Democrats' devastation, why would anybody vote for another Democrat in Republican clothes? The memo was sent loudly and strongly in 2006 and 2008 - Republicans better quit governing like Democrats. When will Republicans receive it?
