Free kibbles

Since Obama's stimulus boondoggle is facing stiff resistance from both Republicans and Democrats, he changed his marketing strategy and claimed it will create 4 million jobs instead of just 3 or 2 or 1.5 and "created and saved" like he originally claimed. He's been steadily ratcheting up the numbers in hopes of winning enough support to get this boondoggle passed. Since he's pulled every one of those numbers out of his butt, none is any better than the other. He'll keep raising the number knowing the press will keep trumpeting it like gospel, until he gets enough Americans to pressure Congress to support this boondoggle. This empty suit is absurdly transparent. The NYTimes, of all places, explains the marketing aspect of changing the numbers to gain support, but when I link the article, it hides behind the subscription service.

Russian and EU sign yet another gas deal, but since the gas flows through Ukraine, Ukraine must sign off on the monitors. After everybody calms down, Russia will find another excuse to close the pipelines. The EU would be extremely foolish to continue to depend on Russia as a source of energy. Ukraine signs on.

Mises highlights an article of impeachment against Blagojevich regarding the 2004 flu vaccine shortage. The shortage was created by government, whose regulators forced companies out of the business, and Blago tried to import European vaccine against Federal law. You can't help but compare the contrivances and corruption resulting from this government intervention to the smooth running of a free market. If liberals get their way, our entire health care system will be swamped with overwhelming corruption that dwarfs this corruption, the current corruption of Medicare and the performance of VA medical care.
