The primary mission of every NASA probe to Mars is to secure more stolen taxpayer dollars for the next mission. Mission accomplished as JPL uses the propaganda from Curiosity to secure funding for the next Mars probe. Don't be surprised if this mission gets axed when the economy collapses further.
