Economy

How is it that patriotism has been co-opted by the buy America crowd? Since when does it make sense for the American people to spend more money on a product made in America instead of spending less money on an equivalent product made elsewhere. Spending more money on a product makes one poorer. By buying the less expensive product, the purchaser has more money left to save, invest or buy other products, making him and every other American wealthier. While it's certainly to the advantage of the American producer if people spend more money on his products, it harms all the rest of the American people. You would think patriotism would promote acting to benefit all Americans, not just a handful at the expense of the rest.
