Tamil Tigers surrender. Congratulations to Sri Lanke for ignoring the international community and recognizing there is no substitute for victory. Hopefully Sri Lanke can finally have some peace. This should be a lesson to anybody suffering from perpetual war. Naturally Britain is upset because Sri Lanke pressed its advantage and won.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown also warned of "consequences" for Sri Lanka for not halting its offensive to allow humanitarian relief for the trapped Tamils whom the government here contends were "human shields" held by the rebels.
I hope the Sri Lanken people spit in Brown's face. Just because Britain no longer has the will to win a war doesn't mean they can force their weakness on everybody else.
Although the final tally is yet to be known, the civil war, which began in 1983, has left at least 70,000 people dead. The LTTE, a terrorist organization in the eyes of many countries, will apparently leave a legacy of failing to gain an ethnic homeland despite waging decades of guerilla warfare, repeated urban suicide attacks and waves of political assassinations.
And if the international community had its way, this war would still be going on and more people would continue to die. To hell with the international community.

President Obama has ushered in a new age of debt.

Humans may have hunted Neanderthals. Making the leap to eating seems unwarranted given the evidence mentioned.

The guy who fought for legislation that basically supported infanticide calls for "fair-minded" debate on abortion. Maybe he should forget the phony, moderate sounding rhetoric and lead by honestly stating his extremist position.

Anybody want to buy a used Russian fighter jet trainer for $40,000?

Texas has jobs.

I find it hard to believe that Maryland's millionaire's tax has already led to numerous millionaires fleeing the state. The reduction in millionaire incomes is more likely due to the recession. But the tax will push millionaires out of the state over time. Of course, since most of those Maryland millionaires are probably Washington aristocrats, they'll just raise taxes on the rest of us to make up their losses.

Arnold Palmer receives Congressional Gold Medal by a vote of 422-1. I bet you can guess who the 1 was. What is Congress doing this for? Who gave them this power? Besides the reasons mentioned, this smacks of creating a nobility, a titled class in America. It's blatantly unconstitutional for several reasons.

All these interrogation accusations are bizarre, but how could anybody think the Egyptian government needs to get US authorization to waterboard somebody? That's just dumb.
