Free kibbles

I quit, I think. Condemnation of government schools.

Government will borrow nearly 50 cents for every dollar it spends this year.

In praise of de Tocqueville.

If replacing principles and teachers in failing government schools was easy, don't you think somebody would already have done it? Where does the law give Obama the power to shut down schools?

Obama withholding stimulus money at the request of a union. Where does the law give Obama that power?

Where does the law give Obama the power to change bank compensation practices?

Where does the law give Obama the power to cut Chrysler's marketing budget in half? And who thinks it's a good idea for the government to run businesses? By ignoring the rule of law in the Chrysler theft, Obama may have killed thousands of future businesses. Obama is a man caused disaster in action.

Is anybody surprised that the most "liberal" states are the least free?

Obama's changes to tax US money overseas and raise taxes on the "rich".

Despite Obama's outrageous spending increases, budget deficits are not his fault, or so his administration says.

John McCain says Obama doesn't have the authority to use TARP funds to bail out automakers. That didn't stop Bush.

Mises scholar on Obama interview.

I find it hard to believe that Obama is fighting the release of photos showing US troops reportedly abusing detainees because of some new found desire to protect our soldiers.

Obama is well aware that regulating CO2 will cost businesses, and therefore consumers, a significant amount of money. That's why he's dedicated to doing it. It's an integral part of his plan to harm America.

Report documents degree to which nightly network news broadcasts are cheerleading for Obama.

This essay makes no sense. Republicans had no problem with Bush's massive $3.1 trillion budget, but they're having problems describing Obama's slightly more massive $3.6 trillion budget? Baloney. Republicans' problem is they flushed all their credibility on budgets, deficits, fiscal responsibility and supporting limited government down the toilet, opening the door for the most radical leftist president in history to dramatically harm the country. How do you make the case government must be $3.1 trillion in size, but that $3.6 trillion is way too big? You can't. This is just a guy making excuses for Republicans.

Doesn't taxing soda count as raising taxes on the non-rich 95 percent of people?

The Federal government is paying $2.6 million to teach prostitutes and pimps in China to drink responsibly. You've got to be kidding me.

Cato blasts the Federal thought crimes bill.

Poll supports legalizing medical marijuana in Ohio. Poll results. Fewer people in northeast Ohio, the state's bastion of modern liberalism, support legalizing medical marijuana, legalizing all marijuana and support legalizing gay marriage than in the state at large. Maybe northeast Ohio isn't as dominated by liberals as we tend to think. Demographic breakdown of medical marijuana poll. "Overall, 73 percent of Ohioans say they favor (either “strongly” or “somewhat”) allowing Ohio doctors to prescribe medical marijuana, while 27 percent oppose." What kind of people are those 27 percent? Do they want to keep surgeons from using scalpels too? Unfortunately, 61 percent of Ohioans want to use the power of government to impose their will on everybody else in the state by keeping marijuana in general illegal.

Obama alienated part of his constituency when he dismissed legalizing marijuana.

Cato says, "The stress tests were essentially a pretentious exercise in making arbitrary predictions about financial institutions using statistical measures of dubious relevance." Sounds like typical government.

How Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour derailed eminent domain reform.

A sure sign that government has severely damaged our economy is when citizens return to barter. But the IRS is quick to tax that too.

Our health care system already suffers from rampant corporatism, but Obama is trying to take health care corporatism to a whole new level. Regarding why the health care companies agreed to $2 trillion in cuts, I assumed the companies did it to keep Obama from destroying them. While I'm probably half right, Reason explains the other half:
Why would the industry agree to this preemptive surrender? Because it means the end of competition. Under the proposed agreement, the government would guarantee a certain level of profit for each health care producer. From the industry's point of view, the goal is to get a seat at the table as politicians and government technocrats "reform" health care—which means it will decide who the winners and losers will be."
Guaranteed profits and protection from competition. Institutionalized corporate welfare. We're all going to pay for it.

Scientist create RNA from primordial soup.

Texas scientists introduce 4 types of South American flies to fight fire ants. I wonder what the unintended consequences of this will be.
