US states cooking the books when reporting graduation rates. Only government would consider an 87% graduation rate respectable. This is what we can expect from socialized medicine. Government will report that people get 87% of the care they need, and consider that respectable, but the real number will be 63%, people will be dying, and government won't acknowledge them. Government is a disaster, and we must severely limit it for our own survival - literally.
US growth forecast slashed to nearly zero. It's only positive because the Fed's flood of dollars is hiding that we're already in a recession.
AP president concerned that the US is arresting journalists to control the flow of information. That's ridiculous. They've arrested at most 12 out of thousands. Journalists in Iraq have amazing freedom to move and report, probably moreso than in any previous war. For the 1 journalist at least, and probably for all, the US has a valid reason to consider that guy a terrorist. He was the only reporter in place to photograph 2 secret terrorist attacks. It's pretty clear he was at least tipped off to be there by the terrorists.
Prices of gold and oil fall.
Russia arrests American BP staff in oil war. Great. This is a new weapon for Russia in the new Cold War of Terror. Violence in Tibet strains relations between China and India. This is a chance for the US to make inroads with India. To win this new Cold War of Terror with Russia and China, we want India on our side, not theirs. China admits killing rioters.
Bin Laden releases new audio tape threatening the Pope for starting a new crusade against Muslims and threatening Europe over the Mohammad cartoons. I'm looking forward to seeing this lunatic captured, tried and executed. US spies have a tough time penetrating al Qaeda. Says Iraq is the perfect base for jihad. That's why we have to win despite Democrats.
Cheney calls for more troops in Afghanistan. There are 26 members in NATO, but the US, Britain, Canada and Netherlands provide the the lions share of combat troops. NATO is a form of security welfare to most of those countries. Cheney's calls are like calling for welfare recipients to go find jobs. The only way that will happen is to credibly threaten to cut off welfare. Germany claims it is tapped out militarily even though it has fewer than 9,000 troops internationally.
This is why the US must develop a policy that weans the world off of our security welfare. Rich countries like Germany, France, and Italy and the EU as a whole should have to take equal responsibility in protecting western interests as the US. Britain is significantly cutting its military as the world gets more dangerous. The only way those countries will change policies to advance their militaries and take responsibility for their own security and the security of their interests is for us to cut off the security welfare.
Turkey bombs PKK in Iraq again.
Reason points out that the a president's second term is usually bad.
Reason explains that the D.C. gun ban case is about self-defense. That's because it's a complete ban on handguns, and handguns are the best weapon for self-defense.
Michigan Democrat Congressman wants 50 cents per gallon tax hike on gas. Apparently the country isn't in enough pain for him. He won't be happy until people are starving. Michigan, please vote this idiot out of office.
Now the new New York Gov. admits he may have paid a hotel bill with campaign funds after an affair. This would be hysterical if it wasn't so typical. Even the well respected, likable blind guy is living the Hedonistic lifestyle at the people's expense. Our state capitals and Washington are all modern day Romes with the elected representatives, their staffs, the lobbyists, etc., etc., etc., all running around in Hedonistic environment, and we're paying for it. These people are selfish, narcissistic government aristocrats, they are not accountable to anybody, and their power has absolutely corrupted them. They are not like us. But this problem of government aristocrats taking from us for their own benefit is easily solved. We could end this problem in Nov. if everybody voted third party. Kick every Democrat and Republican out of the capital. Problem solved.
Audio of Hillary saying Michigan primary will not count, before her feigned support for Michigan voters. She left her name on the ballot in an attempt to steal the Michigan primary later, and that's what she's doing right now. I give her credit for foresight, but more importantly, it shows how dumb the rest of the Democrats were. They had nothing to gain by removing their names, and only Hillary saw the opportunity.
More evidence of Democrats worst nightmare, Hillary takes lead in poll of Democrat voters. It looks like Obama may win the elected delegates, but now that he's been exposed as harboring a racist, he looks pretty unelectable. He's lost his inoculation against criticism. (Because of Hillary's monstrous corruption, I think she's unelectable too.) This Democrat battle will just get more divisive. And Florida won't count. Michigan votes may not count. Democrats are squandering the best opportunity they've had in 50 years.
Interesting interview with Obama from 1990. Why does he act like he's a minority?
Geraldine Ferraro speaks out against Obama lumping her with Rev. Wright. Good for her. Wright is unabashed hater of white people. Ferraro was making an accurate point. She shouldn't have to put up with this crap from Obama, and she's not going to. She isn't falling for his attempt to change the subject. I said I didn't think Obama's speech would work because he avoided the real issue - he chose a racist pastor as his mentor. Looks like I was right. Obama has blown it big time with the Rev. Wright deal. All Obama had to do was keep him away from his campaign, but his ego wouldn't let him. He thought he could get away bringing that blatant racist onto his campaign and still win. And he might still win the nomination because this came out too late. Dick Morris thinks the math says he has it all sewn up. I think Morris underestimates the superiority and ego of the superdelegates as well as their lack of respect for blacks. As a political insider himself, Morris doesn't seem to grasp the significance of his own statement. This is just politics as usual to Morris and Obama. But the American people won't stand for it.
Obama stepped in the race issue again. When asked about his grandmother who expresses fear of passing strange black men on the street and sometimes stereotypical epithets, Obama called her a typical white person. Who's doing the stereotyping now? Can you imagine if McCain had called somebody a typical black person? Obama is living the dream. He can make offensive comments that would run any white man out of the race and get away with it. The double standard is repulsive.
McCain leads Clinton by double digits and Obama by 7 points. The election is still a long way away.
Battlestar Galactica prequel and interview. Hillary is the final cylon.
Author thinks the Supreme Court will rule on the basis of law, not politics. That's a much welcome change in the status quo. Liberal justices can't seem to do that.
Fed Chairman Bernanke's house has lost $260,000 in value during the subprime crisis. Million dollar homes are commonplace among our government aristocrats. I notice that Bernanke hasn't just walked away from his home like so many other deadbeats.
Cato warns against carbon taxes. These taxes would greatly burden our already overburdened economy and have no noticeable effect on climate.
Scientists discover organic molecules on extrasolar planet.
Top 10 nanny states.
Breakdown of the price of gasoline. Nearly all of it goes toward buying crude oil.
Conservative writer welcomes Mamet.
Government can't even maintain toll roads.
German woman goes into hospital for leg operation and gets a new anus instead. I was going to make a joke about socialized medicine, but this happens in private care too. I think doctors should give patients big signs that the patients are agree are accurate and carry them into surgery.
Even though Google did not win any blocks in the FCC spectrum auction, the requirements are that each provider allow users to run whatever applications they want.
Lawrence Kudlow wonders if Bear Stearns was a sacrificial lamb for government to remind Wall Street that they were vulnerable and needed the government. It sounds like crazy talk to me. Far more likely the Fed just was slow and incompetent like the rest of government.
Cal Thomas explodes the myth that government can't cut spending.
Ralph Peters calls the Iraq war justified but he takes no prisoners when he explains how badly everybody but the military screwed it up after deposing Saddam. Wow. If you only read one essay about the 5 year anniversary of Iraq, I recommend this one.
General Petraeus is due to address Congress again a month from now. Last time, the Democrats made fools of themselves trying to attack him. This time, Clinton at least (I don't know if Obama and McCain get to question him), will be trying to score MoveOn.org points on Petraeus. Last time she said believing his statistics required the willing suspension of disbelief. Of course, he was 100% accurate, and she was a fool. How will Clinton manage to score MoveOn.org points without making herself look even more stupid and anti-American than last time? You can bet however she does it, he will be the epitome of a professional.
The calls for more government never end. The Fed manufactors the current credit crisis by artificially keeping the supply of money too low for too long. When the crisis hits, the Fed expands it power by becoming the lender of last resort to investment banks (which had already been approved by law, but it hadn't actually implemented yet.) That in itself provides incentive for investment banks to take more risks, meaning we're going to have more and worse crises. This guy recognizes that taxpayers will likely end up paying the price for the inevitable future crisis. But instead of calling to extricate taxpayers from the risk but pulling the Fed out of this role, he calls for putting government officials on the boards of the companies, pulling government's terrible management capabilities into the companies, making taxpayers more responsible and guaranteeing even worse failures in the future.
The answer is get the damn government out of the free market, not to get it further entrenched. The death spiral of socialism never ends until voters end it, and unless some leader stands up and champions freedom for the benefit of the common man, overcoming the 2 parties, government will destroy this country.
