It didn't take a crystal ball to predict this - border fence being constructed by illegal immigrants. If this doesn't highlight the problem, the policy failures, and the solution, nothing will. It's the economic incentive, stupid. As long as that incentive exists, any fence will be an obstacle, but not a solution. The solution is to remove the economic incentive, in which case we don't need a fence.
Bar tenders have been checking IDs all my life. Every employer I ever had required I present a birth certificate and a photo ID. If every employer in America does this, 80% - 90% of illegal immigrants will self-deport, then the problem will be manageable, and existing border security and ICE resources will suffice to handle it.
We should also work with Mexico to end their corruption which keeps their economy in crapper. A large driver, if not the largest driver of Mexican corruption is our war on drugs. Until we end the war on drugs, Mexico will never become a responsible neighbor. Ending the war on drugs will enable Mexico to mature and provide a healthy economy for its own citizens and disarm the drug cartels that currently control our border, making the job of controlling our borders a lot easier.
Sarkozy will sign a nuclear power agreement with UAE. Iran could go this route as well, if it all it really wanted was nuclear power. But Iran wants nuclear weapons, so they go the opposite direction. Iran's supreme leader demands the UN stop monitoring Iran's nuclear program. Like Iran has allowed them to monitor it anyway.
Britain to take organs from the dead without consent. This ought to spark a number of mysterious deaths.
Chavez to seize property. This is nothing new. He already did it to oil production investment.
It's a stunning tribute to our military personnel and institution that 6 years of constant war has led to only 121 murders by recent veterans. Of course, the NYTimes report doesn't project it in that light. We know war is stressful. The amazing success of our combat personnel at dealing with that stress should be the focus of this story.
I think the definition of torture is pretty clear already: anything that causes injury, extreme pain or long term physical or psychological damage. Fear is not torture. Waterboarding is not torture.
How CBS sees the Arab news reporting of the Bush Middle East peace tour.
Bogus report that over-estimated Iraqi civilian casualties by nearly 10x was funded by George Soros. No surprise there.
What a scam! At first glance, it sounds great that casino workers in Las Vegas get to caucus. But if you read a little further, the only places that will caucus are places controlled by the Culinary Workers Union, and it's only for Democrats. On one hand the union is excluding non-union caucusers, and since the union has endorsed Obama, union officials can watch how the union members caucus. This is why caucus' are undemocratic, because it's so easy it is to use intimidation tactics. How much you want to bet that IDs will not be checked so that illegal immigrants can be pressured into voting for Obama? This stinks. I hope FEC officials are all over this like flies on something smelly. But they'd probably be bought off anyway.
Hillary on Meet the Press.
Scientists create a live, beating heart in a laboratory.
Scientists discover that the Milky Way will collide with a hydrogen cloud in 20 - 40 million years. That should make for some impressive fireworks. Our descendants should have colonized the entire galaxy by then.
