Free kibbles

LIBERTY:

With no government to stop them, college students turn Haitian shipping containers into shelters. Good thing nobody patented that idea. It's also economical recycling. Human ingenuity, unrestricted and unburdened by government, solves people's problems.

RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS:

The militia mentioned in the second amendment is a general militia of all the people - very different from the National Guard. That's because the second amendment affirms every individual's natural right to keep and bear arms. It does not grant that right to a government designated few.

ECONOMY:

The government has no business setting down payment requirements and mortgage insurance premiums.

HEALTH CARE:

It looks like Obamacare is dead in its current form, but beware of Spawn of Obamacare. Newly minted Senator Brown didn't so much campaign about the substance of Obamacare as he campaigned about the process. Brown helped Mitt Romney ram Romneycare and its mandate to buy insurance down the throats of the people of Massachusetts, and they hated the taste of it so much, they voted for a Republican Senator for the first time since 1972. Besides Scott, there's plenty of other liberal Republicans who would be more than happy to compromise on a health care plan that's not much different than Obamacare as long as they got to share the spotlight.

Suddenly Obamacare doesn't need to get done in a hurry."“First of all, we’re not going to rush into anything,” [Harry Reid] said. “We’re going to wait until the new senator arrives until we do anything more on health care.”"All that talk about the big rush last summer... All the big rush last fall... That big push to get a vote on Christmas Eve... All because health care oppression had to be done right now for the good of the American people. Lies. Fraud. Bull****. Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and President Obama are all admitting it was a pack of lies.

Cato study shows that Romneycare in Massachusetts costs a lot for very little gain in coverage.

GLOBAL WARMING:

Alaska Senator files maneuver to block the EPA from regulating CO2. This has about a snowball's chance in hell of passing, but it's smart politics. She's going to make Democrats defend forcing energy prices higher.

Countries are not signing on to the practically worthless Copenhagen deal brokered by Obama.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE:

Police assault Jets fan at Chargers game for boisterously rooting for the Jets, and Chargers fans (weakly) come to his defense, one of whom is subsequently arrested too.
"Amid the ugliness of that incident could be seen evidence of a small but welcome change in public attitudes toward state "authority": The Chargers fans, doubtless aggravated by the taunting they endured by a Jets fan as their home team went down to defeat, criticized the police for their needless display of authoritarian violence."
I think this is right. I think the American people are slowing and fearfully waking up. But I'm afraid it's too late. For nearly every American, the most dangerous situation they'll ever experience is dealing with the police.

POLITICS:

Analysis of Obama's first year failed by the standards of his rhetoric in the campaign, but I think Obama considers his first year somewhat a success. He didn't get health care oppression or tax and trade passed, and those are big failures for him, but he succeeded in taking a tremendous amount of money from Americans by force, making us all poorer, driving our economy significantly deeper into recession and setting the stage for economic collapse that he hopes will spark a communist revolution all while enriching his socialist and communist buddies so they'll be on his side when the violence starts. I think he considers that a success. President Obama's theme is the same as Lenin's - the worse, the better.

Writing about Brown's victory in Massachusetts, Ann Coulter gets some things right.
"As a result, for the past four decades, American politics has consisted of Republicans controlling Washington for eight to 14 years -- either from the White House or Capitol Hill -- thus allowing Americans to forget what it was they didn't like about Democrats, whom they then carelessly vote back in. The Democrats immediately remind Americans what they didn't like about Democrats, and their power is revoked at the voters' first possible opportunity.
...
The Democrats have no natural majority because they have no fundamental principles -- at least none that they are willing to state out loud. They are like a drunken vagrant who emerges from the alley to cause havoc every few years."
That's funny. It goes back to my point that no matter how bad Republicans are, and they're terrible, Democrats are always worse. Then when Republicans get back in power, they're worse than before, but when Democrats get back in power, they're even worse. The parties are in a race to the bottom with Republicans counting on the fact that they only have to be slightly less terrible than Democrats to stay in power.

But I have no idea what this guy is talking about when he says Coulter slams the anti-government movement. Libertarians aren't lacking for kool-aid drinkers either. Don't get me wrong, Coulter is no freedom lover. She's a Republican lover, but I can't find any slam on the Tea Party movement in her essay. Wait a minute. I get it. He's slamming Cheney and her comparison of the Tea Party people to Cheney. That's a ridiculous stretch.

Another reason Democrats govern so poorly is their coalition has so little in common they can't unite for something. The only thing they have in common is hatred or fear of conservatives. They can unite against conservatives, but once they take power, they tear themselves apart.

The Scott Brown election supports my contention that electing Obama, because the people and Republicans would unite against him, might ultimately be less damaging to America than electing McCain. The jury is still out.

How Democrat maneuvering cost them the Senate seat in Massachusetts.

Supreme Court strikes down limits on campaign ads run by groups. That's great news, but the politicians are going to hate it. Unfortunately, corporations and labor unions will both be pushing for bigger government to boost their power. Fortunately, rich freedom lovers will be able to make public counter-arguments, if not as many. This decision reminds us of the myth that liberals support civil rights more than conservatives. That's why when I draw the political spectrum graph I have left and right curving down to meet totalitarian at the bottom. Good point about the grounds for striking down the law. Liberals propose constitutional amendment to limit

If pollsters would ask the following question, there would be no more confusion about the way the American people have been voting since 2006: Do you want a greater burden of government or a reduced burden of government in your life? It's the burden of government, stupid. Unfortunately, aristocrats from neither party want to enact that agenda.

Hitler reacts to Smith defeating Coakley.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee identifies Cato as a right-wing extremist group.

I don't buy Cato's contention that libertarians lead the independent vote. That would mean libertarians voted for Obama. We knew Obama was a Marxist before the election. He was the antithesis of libertarian values. Nobody who voted for him can claim to be a libertarian. Unless the libertarian movement is as infected with ignorant people who don't spend the time or effort to understand the candidates before the election as the rest of the population. I would hate if that was true.

I suggested a while ago that Hillary Clinton would complete one year of work as Obama's Sec. of State, he's treated her like crap, then leave Obama's sinking ship to pursue her own career. Now it turns out Rush Limbaugh is making a similar prediction. I expect Clinton to quit before the spring is out and probably sooner.

Republicans would be foolish not to filibuster Obama court nominees. They can't volunteer to play by nicer rules than Democrats. I would like it better if every vote in both houses required a 60 percent majority.

There's no such thing as a moderately liberal Supreme Court justice nominee. They're all stealth, hardcore liberals pretending to be more moderate until they reach the pinnacle of their profession. The moderate conservatives tend to move to the left too. The only solution to this problem is impeachment for failure to uphold their oath of office.

MEDIA:

Now that John Edwards has admitted his affair, do you think the mainstream media will do a mea culpa about refusing to cover this story when it broke?

MISC:

Principles for storing food.
"Contrary to progressive-collectivist thinking, every individual who takes care of themselves and their families benefits society by not becoming a burden."
Well said.

Social Security Administration fails to use E-Verify properly. Of course it does. It's government.
