"In my day, those seeking justice and freedom used to defect from the East Bloc to the United States and Britain. Now, ironically, we see a major defector, Ed Snowden, fleeing to Russia. It's that bad. Government collapse made things better in Russia, and it will make things better here too, but only after they get much worse.
While the corporate-owned US news networks sugarcoat or obscure the NSA and Afghanistan War scandals, it’s left to Russian TV (RT) to tell Americans the facts. Who would have thought?"
The Telegraph claims the Benghazi cover-up was about covering up a CIA arms smuggling operation.
"The television network [CNN] said that a CIA team was working in an annex near the consulate on a project to supply missiles from Libyan armouries to Syrian rebels. "While I'm sure this is true - there's been reports of the CIA smuggling weapons from Benghazi through Turkey into Syria for a long time, and Ambassador Stevens was meeting a Turkish representative in Benghazi at the time - I'm skeptical that's all there is to it. This is a pretty extreme cover-up for something that's long been common knowledge.
"Sources said that more Americans were hurt in the assault spearheaded by suspected Islamic radicals than had been previously reported. CIA chiefs were actively working to ensure the real nature of its operations in the city did not get out.
So only the losses suffered by the State Department in the city had been reported to Congress."That's new information. From the CNN article:
"Lawmakers also want to know about the weapons in Libya, and what happened to them. This CNN article doesn't say what the Telegraph said CNN said. Maybe they said it on TV. Congressman claims Obama is hiding the witnesses and changing their names. This seems like a really deep cover-up for something that's been public for nearly a year.
Speculation on Capitol Hill has included the possibility the U.S. agencies operating in Benghazi were secretly helping to move surface-to-air missiles out of Libya, through Turkey, and into the hands of Syrian rebels.
It is clear that two U.S. agencies were operating in Benghazi, one was the State Department, and the other was the CIA.
The State Department told CNN in an e-mail that it was only helping the new Libyan government destroy weapons deemed "damaged, aged or too unsafe retain," and that it was not involved in any transfer of weapons to other countries.
But the State Department also clearly told CNN, they "can't speak for any other agencies."
The CIA would not comment on whether it was involved in the transfer of any weapons."
