The plight of Bradley Manning is story of heroism and sacrifice. But changing his name to Chelsea and saying he wants to live as a woman, while that shouldn't matter, will cost him a tremendous amount of support. I fear his lawyers advised him to do this to capitalize on the gender fad. It will backfire on him.

Maybe Bradley Manning wants to live as a woman. I don't get it. Why not want to be a Tyrannosaurus Rex or a colony of bees? If the government acknowledged those, it would have to allow him to escape.

Manning's sentence is tragic. It's a miscarriage of justice. But he really hurt himself with the general public.

The Syrian government once again asked UN inspectors to investigate reports of chemical weapons. Innocent though the government likely is, this is unlikely to change anything. The endgame - direct NATO intervention - seems imminent.

This is why they hate us.

First, Mubarak used US weapons to kill Egyptians. Then Morsi used US weapons to kill Egyptians. Now the coup commander is using US weapons to kill Egyptians. The murderers love us, but the 80 million others all hate us because our government supplies the murderers.

The Israel lobby isn't just buying off congressmen. It's also buying off local law enforcement.

I feel less safe.

Washington is afraid that its support for the Egyptian coup along with the support of the Saudis, UAE and Kuwait will expose that the US is in bed with those countries. Of course it does because it is. Once again, government can't stand the truth because the truth will destroy it. No mention of Israel here. It sounds more like the US is worried the Arabs tails that wag the US dog are unhappy with the dog.
