Free kibbles

TAX AND SPEND:

Republicans do the same thing they always do, pass a huge spending bill without giving anybody time to read it. Remember when they criticized Democrats for that. I hope you didn't think they would be any different.

Americans are migrating from higher tax states to lower tax states. Imagine that.

California government, broke though it is, plans to spend half a billion on a bike path across the Bay Bridge.

GLOBAL WARMING AND ENERGY:

Government fails to fund nuclear plant in southern Ohio. Why should government fund it in the first place? If some company thinks such a plant would be profitable, it can risk its own money.

Scientists use newly discovered link between solar cycles and temperature to predict temperatures for the next decade. It's going to get really cold.
"What these eminent scientists are predicting is significant: “We predict an annual mean temperature decrease for Svalbard of 3.5°C from solar cycle 23 to solar cycle 24 (2009–‐20) and a decrease in the winter temperature of ≈6°C.”"
Yikes. Thanks goodness I don't live that far north.

POLICE STATE:

I used to write about the all seeing eye. It's almost here.
""As the price of digital storage drops and the technology to tap electronic communication improves, authoritarian governments will soon be able to perform retroactive surveillance on anyone within their borders, according to a Brookings Institute report. These regimes will store every phone call, instant message, email, social media interaction, text message, movements of people and vehicles and public surveillance video and mine it at their leisure, according to 'Recording Everything: Digital Storage as an Enabler of Authoritarian Government,' written by John Villaseno, a senior fellow at Brookings and a professor of electrical engineering at UCLA.""
By authoritarian governments, they mean the US and pretty much all others.

Sprint removes Carrier IQ from phones. This is what happens in the marketplace: companies respond to their customers. Do you think the government would stop collecting information on people just because the people didn't like it?

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION:

We've long known that Democrats want illegal immigrants to vote, but as far as I know, they've never admitted it until now. The mayor of New Haven Connecticut asks state legislature to allow illegal immigrants to vote. This underscores the real problem with illegal immigration.

POLITICS:

Ron Paul debate highlights.

Paul leads the Republican field on Intrade to win the Iowa caucuses. Intrade is where people risk their own money betting on candidates. Paul running a strong second in New Hampshire.

At least Frum attacks Paul on policy though his policy recommendation, mass inflation, is ridiculous. That's the debate Paul is winning as Frum points out.

Newt Gingrich drops 12 points in Iowa.

Democrats distancing themselves from Occupy protesters.

MEDIA:

Christopher Hitchens died.

The Washington Post tries to smear Ron Paul by linking him with LewRockwell.com, calling it site for revisionist history and conspiracy theories. While the site has both, it focuses much more on economic and political issues. Limbaugh smears Ron Paul and his supporters. Another smear:
"According to this “journalist” Ron Paul is a “pestilential little locust” and a “Batty old reactionary.”"
It's funny how the author calls the only candidate who has been consistent for the last 30 years a reactionary. The establishment is panicking and responding with an orchestrated smear campaign.
