Freedom of Speech

New Zealand report determines New Zealand authorities illegally spied on Kim Dotcom, and the Prime Minister has apologized. This poor man was arrested and had all his confiscated because the FBI asked New Zealand authorities to arrest him for copyright violation because he hosted a site people used for downloading copyrighted material. So far New Zealand hasn't extradited him, but how about some monetary compensation?

Compare this to a relatively sane country Portugal where file sharing for personal use is legal. People used to be able to share albums and tapes and record them for personal use. But the movie and record industry don't like that in the digital age, so they lobbied the government to make it illegal. I don't know if you could ever copy books for personal use. There was no convenient way to do it even if you could, but now digital books can be copied like music and movies.
