Doug French explains how bad our unemployment situation is.
"As bad as the government's pricing unskilled labor out of the market is for men, for young people trying to get their first job, it's catastrophic. The New York Post reported last September that "the number of young Americans without a job has exploded to 53.4 percent — a post–World War II high, according to the Labor Dept." The worry is that this lack of jobs will create a lost generation, because "Studies suggest that an extended period of youthful joblessness can significantly depress lifetime income as people get stuck in jobs that are beneath their capabilities, or come to be seen by employers as damaged goods," writes BusinessWeek's Peter Coy."It also leads to increased crime.
Graphs show that the housing market is unlikely to stabilize until 2014.
The trillion dollar euro bailout send the Dow on biggest jump in 14 months. Since they're dominated by big corporations, the stock markets love when governments steal money from citizens and give it to big corporations. This is only temporary until the futility of the bailout becomes widely understood.
TAX AND SPEND:
Now the European governments have reached a deal for a $1 trillion bailout of the euro which includes $250 billion from the IMF which our government funds by taking money from US taxpayers by force. What this does is make everybody a trillion dollars poorer, and it will make the subsequent collapse a trillion dollars worse. When will the people wake up and put a stop to this? You can't solve a debt problem by going deeper into debt. You have to cut spending to get back in the black.
I agree with Cato's sentiment on the euro bailout here:
"I’m semi-impressed with the Europeans for choosing the hog-wild approach to bailouts. Not because it is good policy, but rather because it will be a useful demonstration of the old rule that bad policy begets more bad policy (which begets God knows what, but it won’t be pretty)."Not that the Keynesians will blink when it fails. They'll just claim it wasn't big enough. I hope Krugman welcomes this bailout so he can be proved wrong again. At some point the people in mass will stop buying this crap and force these aristocrats out of government and out of business. Bankruptcy ASAP is the best option.
This narrative that sovereign debt is contagious is pure fiction.
"I hate to pour cold water on that theory, but healthy countries aren’t susceptible to Greece’s disease. The sick ones, already plagued with high debt levels and bloated state budgets, don’t need a carrier. Capital flight from these countries “is not evidence of contagion,” said economist and author Anna Schwartz.
Of course, Schwartz said that in 1998 following the Asian financial crisis. In “International Financial Crises: Myths and Realities” (the Cato Journal, Vol. 17 No. 3), Schwartz punctured the notion that financial crises spread from the initial source to innocent victims. Nations are vulnerable because of their “home grown economic problems,” she said."We can't blame Greece or Europe. We're responsible for our own debt problems.
Greece is just the first welfare state to fall. They all will, and they say, the bigger they are, the harder they fall. The US is by far the biggest. This is Obama's goal, and he's going to see it realized.
Government school teacher calls for Hispanics in the US to revolt.
"When you hear from our commandantes, Fidel Castro Ruz, Hugo Chavez, Evo Morales, Brazil, Equador, you name it, we have nine, nine left of center governments in Latin America right now. And they know something that one young Argentine, Che Guevara, said. It was called the domino theory. And he knew that every single country would go revolutionary, one after the other, after the other, after the other."We empower our government to take money from us by force and gives it to this guy so he can teach children to rebel against the US. We're the stupidest people in the world.
GLOBAL WARMING:
Taiwan is shrinking, the ocean is not rising.
POLICE STATE:
Both parties in Washington are upset that the US citizen not-bomber in Times Square has constitutional rights, and they're trying to take them away which means they're trying to take away constitutional rights from all of us.
Court of Appeals panel continues to hold Hutaree members until the full court can hear the case. What does the government care if it's holding men in prison for no good reason?
In order to confiscate more money from citizens, police departments are instituting zero-tolerance policies to ticket everybody in sight.
WAR:
Attacks across Iraq kill 85. Get our troops out of there, and let the Iraqi people determine their own future. It they want to keep the country together, that's fine. If they want to redraw the map, that's fine too. If they want to keep killing each other, our troops should get out of the way. Apparently al Qaeda in Iraq has been linked to these attacks. We've done all we can to help the Iraqis deal with their problems on their own. The surge along with the Sunni awakening pretty much destroyed al Qaeda in Iraq. We've trained and armed their police forces an their military. We've trained and armed the tribesmen. This problem is now an Iraqi problem, and the sooner we cut the umbilical cord, the sooner Iraqis will make of their country what they will.
POLITICS:
Obama awards no-bid contract to Haliburton. Do you think liberals will go nuts like they did when Bush did this? This has nothing to do with party. All government is corrupt.
Let's hope Arlen Specter is the among next incumbents ousted.
Labor Party pressures Gordon Brown to resign then puts happy face on it.
Signs that the people are waking up and punishing incumbents.
MEDIA:
Far left newspaper thinks Kagan is a pragmatist, not a radical. Sounds like a radical to me.
MISC:
A six foot tall black man, Hispanic woman and white hermaphrodite all view the world from the exact same perspective, but five foot and seven foot tall people view the world from a dramatically different perspective. We should push for real diversity in viewpoint on the court - in height. Who cares about obeying the law. I couldn't care less about the religion of the Supreme Court justices, just as I couldn't care less about their race, gender, color of their hair or how tall they are, but it's hard to believe there can be any reason why none are protestant other than discrimination.
Who would have guessed that Kagan, Obama's nominee for the Supreme Court, was a radical socialist? Maybe we'll get Obama to admit he was a radical socialist in one his unscripted moments in defense of his pick. Kagan accused of being an enemy of free speech. What else would you expect from a radical socialist?
Crony capitalism is not capitalism. It's corporatism - form of socialism.
Little punk staffers do the dirty work in Washington.
I think this author is on drugs.
"The selection of Solicitor General Elena Kagan to be the nation’s 112th justice extends a quarter-century pattern in which Republican presidents generally install strong conservatives on the Supreme Court while Democratic presidents pick candidates who often disappoint their liberal base."Like Kennedy and O'Connor? Justice Stevens was an outright liberal though he was appointed by Ford so was outside this window. All the Democrat justices are consistently liberal. Republican justices tend to be moderate and all tend to be statist.
BP comes up with yet another option in its herculean efforts to stop the oil leak - a smaller containment dome. Contrast to government which is doing nothing but talking and distracting BP from fixing this problem. The ingenuity of the private sector is a wonder, and the oppressiveness of government is a man-caused disaster.
