War

Claim that Israel knocked out Gaza's power to keep Gazans from publishing their plight to the world. I'm skeptical. If that was Israel's goal, it would have done it the first day.

The US really is a world-spanning empire, and it extracts a cost not only in blood and treasure, but degrades society.
"While it has indeed expanded its borders through conquest in the past, the modern United States exercises its global hegemony in a different way than the old colonial empires: through a worldwide network of military bases. This network is so vast that there is probably not one single individual who knows precisely how many bases exist at any given time, but even the Pentagon acknowledges that the number is over 600, and with an honest assessment the total would surely be much higher than that, possibly over 1,000."
And it's rapidly moving into Africa.
"The battlefield is not the only place where the blood of soldiers is spilled. A shocking twenty-two US veterans commit suicide every single day, with nearly one active duty soldier suicide per day. This means that there are currently more soldiers taking their own lives than being killed on the battlefield. The common diagnosis of this epidemic is the inadequate treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, as the Future of Freedom Foundation’s Jacob Hornberger suggests, the root cause may be more accurately identified as “guilt –massive unresolved guilt over the wrongful killing of other human beings” in unjust wars like Iraq."
That's terrible.

The US has ten plus nine aircraft carriers.

I've read many times that the US is short of middle officers, but the military is laying off 550 majors.

High resolution picture shows the cockpit of Malaysian jet downed over Ukraine was riddled with high caliber machine gun fire, the type of which comes from fighter jets, not anti-aircraft missiles.
"I am not given to hover long in the realm of speculation, but would like to invite others to consider the following : The MH 017 looked similar in its tricolor design to that that of the Russian President’s plane. The plane with President Putin on board was at the same time ”near” Malaysia MH 017. In aviation circles “close” would be considered to be anywhere between 150 to 200 miles. Also, in this context we might consider the deposition of Ms. Tymoshenko, who wanted to shoot President Putin with a Kalashnikov."
First I heard of that, but why wouldn't they shoot the engines?
