it's not fair to compare Obama's support for Jihadists in Syria with Reagan's support of Contras in South America. The Contras were fighting communists who were the most evil, mass murdering people in history. Funding and arming the Contras, because they were evil too, was evil and counterproductive. But Assad is not nearly as evil as communists and beheading, cannibalistic jihadists are more evil than the Contras.

The reason Obama OKed Putin's proposal on removing Syrian chemical weapons is the CIA is now flooding weapons and fighters to the rebels faster than ever. They expect this change to win the war, so they don't need an air attack. Obama will get his victory either covertly or overtly. Assad won't admit that. He should be negotiating his withdrawal.
