War

Kerry says Syria is not Iraq.
""This is not Iraq. This is not Afghanistan. There is nothing similar in what the president is contemplating," Kerry said. "There are others who are willing to fight, others who are engaged. And the issue here is not whether we will go and do it with them, it's whether we will support them adequately in their efforts to do it.""
The difference is the US has been fighting this proxy war in secret for two years. The war in Syria is more dishonest than the war in Iraq.

Kerry says samples from Syria tested positive for Sarin gas. If they did, they weren't real samples.

US attack could cause chemical weapons deaths.

Obama's policy would hand Syria's chemical weapons stockpiles to al Qaeda.

Everybody is backing away from war with Syria.

The true nature of the war in Syria.
"The Syrian conflict is a proxy war being waged against Iran by the United States, conservative Arab oil producers, and three former Mideast colonial powers, Britain, France and Turkey who are seeking to restore their domination in the region.  Israel, hoping to isolate Hezbollah and cement its annexation of Syria’s Golan Heights, cheers from the sidelines.  Syria and Hezbollah are  Iran’s only Arab friends. "
Israel don't just cheer from the sidelines. It agitates behind the scenes.
"The US and allies ignited the anti-Assad uprising two years ago, using the underground Syrian Muslim Brotherhood and imported jihadis.   But Assad’s forces, with some limited help from Russia, Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah,  held on and are now beating the US-backed rebels.
As a result, the Obama administration is now leaning towards direct US military intervention to stave off defeat of its proxies by neutralizing Assad’s air force, armor and artillery.  As for Syria’s chemical weapons, they were developed as a counter to Israel large nuclear and chemical arsenal."
This likely attack is about victory in the proxy war, not retaliation for a gas attack.

The war on Syria is also a proxy war against Russia.

Saudis urge US to attack Syria. Why don't you and him fight.

In 2000, Qaddafi criticized the US foreign policy of war:
"America relies on cruise missiles for conducting its relations with the rest of the world. These are outdated methods and bankrupt programs that have no future."
They had more of a future than he did.

Pat Buchanan makes the concise case the chemical attack was a false flag.
"First, this thing reeks of a false flag operation,” said Buchanan. “I would not understand or comprehend that Bashar al-Assad, no matter how bad a man he may be, would be so stupid as to order a chemical weapons attack on civilians in his own country when the immediate consequence of which might be that he would be at war with the United States. So this reeks of a false flag operation.”"
That's about it.

Syrian rebels admit responsibility for chemical attack.

This picture supposedly of a naval officer rejecting war in Syria is going viral.
This might kill Obama's latest war. If this is really a navy officer, I bet NSA hunts him down.

Rep. Justin Amash fights the establishment again, saying members of the military are urging him to vote against the war. I like this guy more and more.

Obama deferred to Congress because an overwhelming majority of Americans demanded it. The decision is a sign of weakness. Obama risks embarrassing loss. It might be embarrassing internationally, but I don't think he'll be embarrassed at home. He'll get to say he bowed to the will of the people if he loses.

Obama's political calculation.
"Consider this: Mr. Obama made his dramatic Rose Garden statement Saturday — then headed to the golf course. Congress has no plans to cut short its 30-day vacation, and the president did not call lawmakers back. So much for urgency."
Exactly.
"The conventional wisdom is, as usual, wrong. Losing the congressional vote won’t be an embarrassment for the president, as all the talking heads are still parroting. A loss would be a double win. First, because a “No” vote would allow the foreign policy neophyte to walk away from his blundering “red line” declaration on chemical weapons (“I wanted to go in, but Congress said no”). And second, should Republicans who voted for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars now oppose Syria, the president would be armed with clear “evidence” that their opposition is purely political."
I disagree. The people don't want war with Syria. I think Obama is baiting Republicans into voting for a war the people don't want, and he'll just be doing his constitutional duty by carrying it out.

The UK sold chemicals that could be used to make chemical weapons including Sarin to Assad regime after the civil war started.

Details on Obama and Biden's golf outing.

USS Nimitz rerouted to support attack on Syria. Maybe if Obama wins this vote, his attack will be much broader than had he gone it alone.

Obama had signed a secret order providing assistance to Libyan rebels too.
