Remember when Egyptians revolted because they wanted to freedom? The new Egyptian government just censored a newspaper for insulting the president.

"The paper, a tabloid owned by a Christian businessman, has been fiercely critical of Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood while showing strong support for the military council, which took power after the ouster of Hosni Mubarak in last year's uprising. Both Morsi and the military council are in midst of power struggle.

Saturday's edition featured a lengthy front-page article warning of a Brotherhood "emirate" seizing Egypt and calling on Egyptians to join ranks with the military to confront Islamists. The lawsuits also accuse the paper of inflammatory coverage of recent sectarian violence."

How's that new government working out? Meet the new president. Same as the old president.

ECONOMY:

Analysis beyond government's propaganda numbers shows our economy is in rapid decline.

"A good starting point for anyone interested in parsing government numbers is to assume that any number publicized by government is a lie."

That's great advice.

REGULATION:

Android is overtaking Apple in the smart-phone market. Apple isn't winning in the marketplace, so they're trying to use the police power of government in the form of patent lawsuits to overcome their competition.

HEALTH CARE:

A doctor tells the truth about cancer research.

"The Powers-That–Be in the cancer fundraising world--such as the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the Komen Foundation--would have you believe we are making progress against cancer. However, we are not making any respectable progress. In fact, over the last 60 years, more and more people are diagnosed with cancer and more are dying from it. The Powers-That-Be are too busy fundraising and promoting faulty diagnostic tests such as mammograms instead of promoting research to determine the underlying cause of cancer and how to avoid getting cancer.
...We know that ionizing radiation causes cancer, including breast cancer. It is ludicrous to recommend yearly mammograms when, after 10 years of annual mammograms, a woman’s breasts have been exposed to the same amount of ionizing radiation that a woman received one mile from the nuclear blast at Hiroshima."

This is because these bureaucrats and researchers profit from cancer and are funded by stolen money. If they cured it, or otherwise eliminated it, they would lose their jobs.

This post is hilarious. The author makes the case that, because our ancestors ate a lot of meat, they out-competed vegetarian relatives, but she concludes by advising people should avoid meat today. I'm sure the establishment is paying her well. It reads as if her editor forced her to put that last paragraph in to appease the powers-that-be.

The other question is, if Mossad was monitoring these guys, why wasn't the FBI?

Thanks to the government, low income people take more prescription drugs, and are therefore more likely to die. In other words, poor people are more vulnerable to government's poisoning of them, making them chronically ill and increasing their mortality rate.

POLICE STATE:

Anonymous and Wikileaks expose another secret government surveillance program monitoring Americans, not terrorists, not foreigners, but Americans.

"Former senior intelligence officials have created a detailed surveillance system more accurate than modern facial recognition technology — and have installed it across the US under the radar of most Americans, according to emails hacked by Anonymous."

TrapWire. What a telling name.

At the same time, however, WikiLeaks was relentlessly assaulted by a barrage of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, crippling the whistleblower site and its mirrors, significantly cutting short the number of people who would otherwise have unfettered access to the emails."

Gosh, I wonder who might have done that. Once again Anonymous and Wikileaks performs a great service for Americans, exposing that our government is the greatest threat we face. Also note the story is reported by Russia Times, not a US media outlet.

WAR:

More evidence that Romney will be just like Obama, or worse.

"I don't believe at this stage if I'm president that we need to have a war powers approval or special authorization for military force. The president already has that capacity now."

Every president builds on the evils of the previous president.

Another supposed ally in Afghanistan kills three Americans. Another supposed ally killed three other Americans the same day. US troops have been in Afghanistan for 11 years, but they still can't tell friend from foe even when they've trained them. Get out now.

POLITICS:

Romney officially names budget fraud Paul Ryan as VP running mate. Wikipedia wins again. Democrats think this works in their favor. I don't know. It actually draws a tiny - very tiny - distinction between Obama and Romney that didn't exist before. I think that works in Romney's favor. The Ryan budget is a joke.

Welfare, Cooperation and Rational Thought

I haven't read anything at mises.org about the relationship between welfare, cooperation, and rational thought. It seems to me that the market rewards and strengthens an individual's cooperative spirit. An entrepreneur must cooperate with his suppliers, his customers and his workers or go bankrupt. A worker must cooperate with his employer and his fellow workers at least or be fired.

But welfare strips an individual from the cooperative environment. He has no employer, co-workers or customers he must cooperate with. He simply has to show up in a welfare line to get a check. Therefore the cooperative spirit in welfare recipients is crippled.

Furthermore, as Mises pointed out, socialists can't perform economic calculation. That means welfare recipients, because they cannot calculate their effort compared to their income, are crippled at performing economic calculation. Sure, they're not completely unable to do it - they have to chose between buying food and paying strippers, for example - but they cannot relate either to their production.

These two factors must work together to undermine rational thought in welfare recipients. They're not necessarily more selfish than anybody else. They just can't make rational decisions because their ability to think rationally has been crippled by welfare.

Here's one of those classic arguments against welfare and dependence. It depends of value judgments.

""If you give a man a fish, you feed him for one day. If you teach a man to fish, he can feed himself for life." Yes, there is a whole generation of youngsters who have never heard that old chestnut. This blind spot of ignorance is liberalism, "if you only give a man a single fish, he will have to vote for you to get another fish tomorrow." But this is only half of the formula for successful politics."

All these things make sense from experience and an emotional point of view, but there's no rational explanation of why this occurs. Self-esteem is a real thing, but it's not a rational thing. I make a rational explanation above, and I think that argument should be the rational and compassionate basis, not the sole argument, but the basis, for arguing against welfare. I believe the emotional aspects mentioned above are derived from the rational issues that I mention at the start of this essay.

I would be remiss if I failed to mention that welfare also grants the provider power over the receiver, which is another reason government loves welfare. This is why the US government provides welfare to so many Americans. It's why the US government provides "security welfare", NATO, to Europe and so many other countries around the world. It's also another reason why compassionate and rational people should reject welfare.

RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS:

Colorado cops detain - is that the new, politically correct term for arrest? - man for carrying a gun in a park. The only problem is it's been legal to carry guns in parks since 2003. Have you ever heard the old phrase ignorance of the law is no excuse? Given that standard, these police are guilty of abrogation of rights under color of law. Prosecute them. This goes back to my contention that government agents, because they have power, have greater responsibility for obeying the law. We should be less lenient to them, since they have the license to kill, than to civilians.

ECONOMY:

More net jobs have been lost during Obama's presidency than any since 1945. Yet he's still ahead of Romney in the polls. This despite Romney out-raising Obama for three months. This says more about how bad a candidate Romney is than anything else. I encourage every American to vote Libertarian. If you vote for Romney, you vote for more of the same which means economic collapse and the US military roaming the streets. Just like if Obama wins. Only a libertarian can prevent this.

TAX AND SPEND:

Here we go with the most common economic fallacy in the media today: military budget cuts will cost jobs. No. This is the fallacy of the seen versus the not seen that Henry Hazlitt talked about in Economics in One Lesson. In order for the government to spend money, for example creating military, industrial complex jobs, it must first steal that money from others, and in doing so destroying more jobs than it can ever create.

Here's a nice tirade against welfare queens. I like how it ends:

"Romney is proving himself to be every bit of McCain as predicted. The man has been publicly accused of three felonies and comes back with… zippo. Someone remind me again why Romney was the only "electable candidate"."

Don't you like how the establishment picks two virtually indiscernible candidates? Do you want big-government, high-tax, money-printing, welfare queen Obama or the same Romney? By insuring the two candidates are virtually identical, the establishment ensures no meaningful debate occurs between them. It's lovely for them. It's catastrophic for us.

FEDERAL RESERVE:

Here's a really succinct expression of our future...

"The government's debt and the monetary inflation cannot go on indefinitely. Either the dollar dies or else the debt is repudiated. Maybe both."

This is a good reminder that as bad as things are, they can and will get worse. Ultimately either the government will repudiate its debt or the Fed will print so much money that the value of the dollar will become zero. But, it could get worse. If we don't put an end to the looting ASAP, both could happen. But it could get even worse than that. Then the Yellowstone supervolcano could strike. It can always get worse, and the American people keep voting to make it worse. If you vote for either Obama or Romney, you're voting to make things worse.

EDUCATION:

Obama withholding Social Security payments from people who didn't pay off their student loans. Huh? Who got student loans from the government 45 years ago? I never heard of a government student loan when I went to college 30 years ago. What the hell is this? I call bull****. Something else is going on here.

"Many of these retirees aren't even in hock for their own educations. Consumer advocates say that in the majority of the cases they've seen, the borrowers went into debt later in life to help defray education costs for their children or other dependents."

Ah-ha. A hint of the truth. It seems that when the government took over student loans, it also took over the debt for previous student loans, and now it's sticking it to the old people. That's how evil government is.

"Other retirees took out federal loans when they returned to college in midlife, and a few are carrying debt from their own undergraduate or graduate-school years. (No statistics track exactly how many of the defaulting loans fall into which category.)"

Isn't that convenient.

POLICE STATE:

I regularly point out that everything about politics is self-interest, that power corrupts, that because government is a coercive institution it attracts the worst people in the country, and the worst of the worst rise to the top. I also regularly claim that as a consequence of this the politicians in Washington D.C. engage in grotesque sexual, drug induced exploits that would make Roman emperors blush, all funded by taxpayer money. The reason we never read about these orgies is the press is in on them. But this lawsuit gives us a glimpse inside that supports my contention.

 "New York’s top Department of Homeland Security cop is suing Department of Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano in an explosive but heretofore unnoticed federal lawsuit alleging Homeland Security employment discrimination against straight male agents by Napolitano (READ the federal complaint) in favor of her lesbian girlfriend and sexual harassment of male agents by Napolitano’s handpicked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Chief of Staff, Suzanne Barr. The lawsuit alleges that Barr demanded a male ICE Special Agent engage in oral sex with her and that she relocated three top male ICE agents’ offices to the men’s bathroom at ICE headquarters. All of the alleged misconduct was the behavior of Barack Obama’s hand-picked people running the Department of Homeland Security, who’ve created a hostile work environment for straight male agents, a story I recently broke on this site."

Nothing about this story surprises me. I contend if you substituted Bush or Romney for Obama, nothing would change. If you substituted any Republican bureaucrat for Napolitano, nothing would change. This isn't about party, it's about power. The US government in Washington D.C. houses the most depraved looters and perverts the world has known since the fall of the Roman empire, if not worse. They have the most power of any people in history, therefore they are the most corrupt, self-serving and monstrous sexual abusers in history.

POLITICS:

I wonder what a poll of non-voters would look like. My impression would be they would know nothing about anything political. The vast majority would come off as ignorant of politics. But I would love to be proved wrong. I would love to discover that non-voters are the most informed of all. The only problem is who answers the poll. It seems likely that people who are completely ignorant of politics won't answer the poll while people who are super-well informed and refuse to vote because of it will answer the poll. This would create a huge bias. At the same time, this is a market ripe for an entrepreneur.

Despite the clear support of the Bilderbergers, who've raised more money for him than Obama, this guy thinks Romney will lose, and for good reason.

"This is a guy who's been running for president for at least five years and still doesn't seem to know what he's doing."

You can't argue with that. I was surprised at how terrible a campaign John McCain ran, but the Bilderbergers chose Obama, so I could understand why McCain didn't bother to compete. His bosses told him not to. But I can't understand why Romney won't compete. His bosses are telling him to win, but he's sitting on the sidelines. Romney has yet to explain that Obama is a Marxist. Tell the people that. Make Obama defend against it.

This election keeps piling farce upon farce. For example, Obama has been forced to distance himself from the bogus Romney-cancer ad, pretending they knew nothing about it. The only problem is, they knew all about it. The liar-in-chief doesn't care. The polls are in his favor. He's laughing all the way the White House.

More evidence Paul Ryan will be VP. Even though Ryan is a Washington insider, proving once again that nothing will change until the US collapses under the weight of government, this is a good political choice for Romney. Ryan is a lightning-rod for policy discussions, and God knows Romney needs to bring attention back to policy because he's getting run over by Obama's slander machine while he sits around and twiddles his fingers.

MEDIA:

Well known liberal journalist suspended for plagiarism. Why only suspended, not fired? It's not like it was an accident. Because he's a well known liberal journalist.

I'm not surprised that immigrants receive welfare benefits are nearly twice the rate of native born Americans. Of course it's harder for them to climb the economic ladder, so they get trapped in government's spider's web.

This guy is doing a great job, and he's not even a skeptic. He just believes in the scientific method and being honest.

I think that’s really unfortunate."

The frauds, political activists posing as scientists, have made people skeptical of all supposed scientific proclamations, and that's a good thing. And I love that he brings up the dust bowl that the frauds like to pretend didn't exist.

"Richard Muller: “We saw it in 1930 – was the dustbowl. So yes – these things happen, and they are normal fluctuations, driven primarily by El Nino and the Gulf Stream. And these large changes are not due to two-thirds of one degree Celsius.”"

If it was natural climate variation in the 1930s, then it's natural climate variation now.

To test NOAA's claim that July was the hottest month in the US on record, Anthony Watts calculated the temperature using NOAA's most accurate temperature network and found NOAA's old network, the same network he showed biased temperatures upwards, reported a temperate 2.1 degree F higher than the accurate network.

"This puts July 2012, according to the best official climate monitoring network in the USA at 1.9°F below the  77.4°F July 1936 USA average temperature in the NOAA press release today, not a record by any measure."

So much for July being the hottest month in the US on record.

"NOAA never mentions this new pristine USCRN network in any press releases on climate records or trends, nor do they calculate and display a CONUS value for it. Now we know why. The new “pristine” data it produces is just way too cool for them.
Look for a regular monthly feature using the USCRN data at WUWT. Perhaps NOAA will then be motivated to produce their own monthly CONUS Tavg values from this new network. They’ve had four years to do so since it was completed."

That ad about Romney supposedly killing a woman because he closed a plant and a worker lost his insurance is despicable on its own terms, but it's also a lie.

Oh, and Soptic admitted to CNN on Tuesday afternoon that the family in fact had health insurance at the time of Soptic’s wife’s death. But it’s still all-powerful, time-traveling, omnipresent Darth Romney’s fault."

The evil of these liars never ceases to amaze me.

Video of the Kim Dotcom raid has been released in his trial. You might think a simple arrest for copyright infringement, nothing dangerous, would involve a couple guys in suits delivering a warrant. You would be wrong.

"The helicopter carrying members of the elite special tactics group flew into the Coatesville home of Dotcom. “Ground units, Gates are open,” someone says into the radio. Dotcom’s pregnant wife their three children, some guests and about a dozen staff were also there. All is quiet below. To money-grubbing NASA scientists, the crater in which the Curiosity rover landed in looks like it's full of taxpayer money. They say it looks like earth, but in fact, it looks nothing like earth to you or me. They could land a rover in a black hole, and they'd claim it looks like earth, they expected to find water and it could harbor life. It's all about looting the American people. NASA is a joke. It's probably been a joke forever, and I just realized it. I always thought NASA was above the government crap, and man do I feel like a fool for not realizing it for so long. As if on queue, NASA has its rover take a narcissistic picture of itself. Note to NASA, you won't find any water or life on your rover unless you sent it there.

REGULATION:

Corporations are "requesting" the FCC allow more radiation from cell phones. They'll change the regulation, showing this is a perfect example of regulatory capture and that government works on the behalf of rich special interests, not the people at large.

FEDERAL RESERVE:

A Fed official blames the Great Recession on Fed policy, but not the way you might think.

"A moderate recession became a major recession in summer 2008 when the [Federal Open Market Committee] ceased lowering the federal funds rate while the economy deteriorated. The central empirical fact of the 2008-2009 recession is that the severe declines in output that in appeared in the [second quarter of 2008 and the first quarter of 2009] … had already been locked in by summer 2008."

Bernanke didn't inflate soon enough or fast enough. Stupid or evil? I'm going with evil. I think the Fed people know exactly what they're doing to us too. I think they own lots of gold and houses and property overseas so they can escape with their stolen money when Americans finally put a stop to their looting.

HEALTH CARE:

OMG, wouldn't it be great if Romney took health care back to the 1950s? Think about how cheap health care would be. Everybody could afford it. But like always, Obama is lying. A lot of people think that politicians are stupid, not evil, but this email from the Solyndra CEO calling the federal government the "Bank of Washington" shows that they know they are looting us for the benefit of themselves and their cronies.

US scientists, who have no credibility on the subject, claim July was the hottest month in US history. I'm sure this proclamation will be quickly refuted, but the most interesting point in the article is the previous hottest month was July 1936. If man-made CO2 was really warming the planet, the hottest months in history in the country that has produced the most CO2 in the last hundred years would all be recent. But no. 1936 was, and is likely to still be, the hottest. I had previously reported that July was only the fourth hottest locally. The rebuttal didn't take long. Here's the comparison of 2012 to 1936 and 1934. This article draws attention to James Hansen's 1999 statement,

"In the NASA press release in 1999 , Hansen was very strongly for 1934. He said then:

The U.S. has warmed during the past century, but the warming hardly exceeds year-to-year variability.Indeed, in the U.S. the warmest decade was the 1930s and the warmest year was 1934.

This was illustrated with the following depiction of US temperature history, showing that 1934 was almost 0.6 deg C warmer than 1998."

It was only later that Hansen began fudging temperatures to make it appear that recent years were warmer and older years colder, data which NASA was forced to correct.

The government wants us to believe the economy created 163,000 jobs in July, but in fact, 195,000 more people were working in June than in July. 150,000 dropped out of the work force.

Mis-named stimulus spending always depresses the economy.

That's because all government spending takes real resources out of the productive private sector and squanders them in the parasitic political economy.

Obama budget would had $11 billion to the debt, but it didn't pass. Why isn't Romney making this a huge issue?

21 million people have had their online health care records breached. All the major breeches were of government health care entities. The article does not mention either Google or Microsoft.

Gas jumped 40 cents in Ohio last week. It jumped 20 cents over one night.

It looks like channel 19 in Cincinnati has exposed a conspiracy around the Colorado shooter. Eyewitnesses reported the shooter was not alone. Tear gas was thrown into the theater from multiple points. The shooter took a phone call right before beginning the attack. They wonder how he afforded all the weapons and armor. They wonder where he got the training to make complicated explosives generally found only in war zones and why he told police about them. These are all great questions that nobody is asking and which belie declarations by local police that he acted alone. More on the possible conspiracy.

"New damning details on the Colorado shooting now surface on a daily basis. The latest is that the highest honors neuroscience student James Holmes was seeing a psychiatrist. Holmes was a patient of Dr. Lynne Fenton at the University of Colorado. Fenton worked for the Air Force in Texas and was known for dispensing dangerous pharmaceutical drugs, according to the Washington Post.
The doctor’s background came to light after the corporate media reported Holmes allegedly mailed a notebook "full of details about how he was going to kill people" to her before the attack. “Among the images shown in the spiral-bound notebook’s pages were gun-wielding stick figures blowing away other stick figures,” Fox News reported. This is an obvious attempt to hastily arrange a backstory on Holmes and portray him as a murderous psychopath. It is a key element in the narrative portraying him as a lone wolf, which is the preferred government story when it conducts false flag operations for political gain and to manipulate public opinion."

She would have had a duty to inform the police. Maybe she did. Maybe they're covering that up too.

We believe they should be handed out to unqualified people on the basis of race, sexual orientation or imaginary environmental crisis."

This guy is not going to last for long. I'd like to give this article ten thumbs up, but I'm not all thumbs.

I think if the founder of Best Buy buys the company and takes it private, he'll make it succeed. The government heavily regulates public companies, and they have to answer to a committee of directors. Owners of private companies have much more power to be entrepreneurs.

I keep saying that I don't know why Americans are so optimistic and the stock market so high. It's a delusion. Maybe I wouldn't have realized what was going on either if I hadn't discovered mises.org and lewrockwell.com several years ago, but thanks to people like Ron Paul and Peter Schiff, the economic reality we're facing has gone mainstream, so I think people should have learned by now. Gary North explains how the press is deluding people who allow the press to think for them.

How anybody can be bullish given that report, no matter how bullish they make it sound, is beyond me. How anybody can think, after every attempt to rescue the eurozone has failed so far, that suddenly Europe's rulers are going to save it this time is beyond me. I was just going to add eurozone to my dictionary, but on second thought, it's not going to be around long enough to make it worth the effort.

Once again Channel 19 in Cincinnati does a great job cutting through the crap and telling people what other news outlets won't, this time about the Fed.

Claim that deflation is impossible because most money today is electronic, not cash. You can't stick electronic digits under your mattress. You can only transfer them from bank to bank. But of course anybody can demand cash for any deposit. I think the real argument here is most of the money supply is in the hands of institutions, and they can't withdraw it and put in under their mattress. In fact, this might be one of the reasons the Fed got rid of all bills bigger than $100.

This is less than the number necessary to keep up with population growth, which would be about 180,000. Despite being presented as good news, this is bad news. Unemployment also increased to 8.3 percent.

Or maybe the message should be don't mess with traditional marriage. Gay activists are making a big mistake with this kiss-in protest. All this will show is how much small the gay activist movement is compared traditional marriage supporters. The press will give the gay activists much more press - I didn't notice the press announcing Chick-fil-A appreciation day in advance - and a few locations might draw big crowds, but across the country, this protest will be tiny compared to Chick-fil-A appreciation day.

Will OpenGL become the new gaming standard over DirectX? Let's hope so. That would break Microsoft's virtual monopoly computer games, and that might break its virtual monopoly on the desktop. Then we could see some real innovation on the desktop for the first time in over a decade.

Thomas Sowell explains that the rich have lost more income in this depression than anybody else.

The one percent is a symbol. The ruling class is much smaller than that. I guarantee the CEO of Goldman-Sachs didn't lose any income because the Fed is funneling money to his bank. The same is true for many banks and corporations. I also guarantee that the head of the AFL-CIO and the SEIU didn't lose any income because they're protected by Obama. The people who are in bed with the government, our rulers who are not politicians, are still getting richer while everybody else gets poorer. This is why I keep saying even the rich, other than the ruling class, are going to end up poor. This is why I keep saying the US is moving towards feudalism.

I think the more Obama calls Romney a felon, the more voters he will turn off. His fake niceness is his last asset, and he's throwing it away.

Obama is strong-arming companies into illegally failing to give notice on impending layoffs.

Isn't it sad that Obama makes people wish Hillary had become president? But while it may seem we've sunk as far as we can, it's not true. We will almost certainly sink further. We're rapidly heading towards Hayek's rise of the strongman, assuming Obama isn't the strongman. In fact, I'll take it one step further. No matter who is president from now on, that president will become the strongman when the US collapses. Every person we elect is the strongman waiting for the right circumstances to emerge.

As hot as July was, it was only the fourth hottest July on record.

We only average four days of 90 or higher in August. It hasn't been like that for the last ten years. I'd say it's closer to ten. It seemed that way when I was a kid too.

So even the drought wasn't as bad as the alarmists are making out, though our grass looks terrible.
