USA Today asks if rural areas still matter. There's no doubt that political power is dominated by big cities. If you look at a county map of elections, big cities are bright blue and the rest of the country is red. I'm sure big cities also comprise the majority of media markets. But when shortages begin, people will remember that rural areas still matter. And in case USA Today has forgotten, Iowa hosts the first primaries, and we have outrageous corn and ethanol subsidies as a result.
