Tax and Spend

Ohio State economist Richard Vedder pokes government again:
"Most Americans recognize the need to reduce government spending to rein in the national debt. But there is another reason to cut government spending for specific programs: If more people have less incentive to stay out of the work force, they might seek jobs and help spur economic growth."
It's not rocket science.

I expect government will pass a value added tax (VAT) very quietly at some point.

The most lawless president in our lifetimes will break the law again by not delivering a budget proposal to Congress on time.

Politico wants people to believe the Republicans are going to allow spending cuts to happen instead of raising taxes.
"If Politico’s reporting this morning is accurate, then “90%” of House GOP members are ready to allow across-the-board sequestration budget cuts to take effect rather than compromise with President Obama. And “more than half of their members are prepared to allow default unless Obama agrees to dramatic cuts he has repeatedly said he opposes.”"
This is more political theater.

Obama wants to replace the gas tax with a pay per mile tax that would increase taxes by 250 percent and give government more control over our lives.

Mark Steyn recognizes the Hagel nomination is Obama's desire to shrink the warfare state so he can grow the welfare state.
