Politics

The CIA won the midterms.
"So the downfall of the Democrats did indeed provide cause for celebration. If the Dom Perignon was flowing on the seventh floor at CIA Headquarters and its counterparts working for Clapper, it is partly because they had obtained a get out of jail free card. But more important, they now also have every expectation of seeing recent budget cuts linked to drawdowns in Iraq and Afghanistan reversed and possibly even go the other way. Currently $67.9 billion is spent on civilian and military spying, down 15 percent since 2010, but Burr is on record as favoring more spending on defense, and as much of the intelligence budget is rolled into the massive Pentagon bill one hand will likely be washing the other, as the Italians would put it."
You could say the police state won too.

Now that Democrats are lame ducks, Harry Reid suddenly calls a vote on watered-down bill to reform NSA. After whole-heartedly supporting the police state for six years, Democrats are going to pretend they're against it since Republicans took Congress.

Obama withheld his nomination for Attorney General until after the election because he knew people wouldn't like her.

Slamming Bill Gates for his ulterior motives for public spectacle philanthropy.
"But first – and against this background – let me add the following: The righteous give discreetly; the pious give publicly. Accustomed to the hedonism of Hollywood and the exhibitionism of cable news anchors, it may surprise some to learn that the manner in which most ordinary Americans give – anonymously – satisfies the exacting standards of righteousness specified by Maimonides. The 12th-century Jewish philosopher stipulated that the highest form of charity is practiced when “donor and recipient are unknown to each other.”"
Philanthropists don't give because they crave the adoration of others.
