Karzai accuses US of negotiating with Taliban. The US has been negotiating with the Taliban for a couple years.

It rings true to me. The US doesn't want to leave because they haven't secured the oil pipeline and rare earth minerals, and if they can convince Afghans to ask them to stay, that may make it possible to stay.
