Police State

New York police officer convicted in conspiracy to kidnap, torture then eat women. More evidence that coercive government, the only kind we know, attracts the most evil people to work for it.
"The trial had drawn widespread attention in part because it involved a police officer’s bizarre and disturbing behavior, but also because it highlighted some of the darkest corners of the Internet, where fetishists hide behind Web identities like Girlmeat Hunter, which Mr. Valle used, and engage in role-playing fantasy about cannibalism and sexual torture."
The dark corners of the internet? How about the pervasive darkness of government? The state is a violent institution. The very best people believe that the ends justifies the means, which is an amoral philosophy. That's why it attracts the most evil, deviant people in society to work for it.
"Mr. Valle’s lawyers told the jury that their client had merely been involved in role-play and never intended to harm anyone.
“It was all fantasy — sick, twisted, ugly fantasies, traded on the computer,” Julia L. Gatto, a federal public defender, said in her summation on Thursday. “That’s what this prosecution rests on, the ugliness of Gil’s thoughts.”
“We don’t convict human beings because of ugly thoughts,” she added."
I don't know whether he went beyond thoughts or not, but I know this is the kind of people attracted to work for government.

Google to pay $7 million for collecting people's info. The government which collects way much more and for far more nefarious purposes is the beneficiary of that money.
