War

Afghanistan is doomed to fail.
"The current power sharing government among factions in Afghanistan will likely be as successful as the one in Iraq during the Nouri al-Maliki period: not very. A viable democracy is only possible if fair elections produce an acknowledged winner and a losing loyal opposition exists – at least one loyal enough not to fatally undermine the group or groups in power. The political culture of Afghanistan has none of those prerequisites. The last Afghan election was clearly corrupt and therefore perceived as illegitimate, thus rendering it unlikely that any opposition would be loyal. Because of that failed outcome, the United States then arranged that the two electoral antagonists – Ashraf Ghani, representing the Pashtuns, and Abdullah Abdullah, representing other ethnic groups – would share power, with Ghani becoming president and Abdullah becoming chief executive. "
Doomed to fail.

Bush and company knew many Guantanamo prisoners were not terrorists.

Senate Democrat Report claims CIA lied about torture.
"The summary of the Senate Intelligence Committee report said the CIA misled Americans on the effectiveness of "enhanced interrogation." The interrogation was poorly managed and unreliable, the report said. President Obama has previously said that in his view the techniques amounted to torture. The Senate committee's report runs to more than 6,000 pages, drawing on huge quantities of evidence, but it remains classified and only a 480-page summary (PDF) is being released."
So far. The CIA disagrees.
"We also disagree with the Study’s characterization of how CIA briefed the program to the Congress, various entities within the Executive Branch, and the public. While we made mistakes, the record does not support the Study’s inference that the Agency systematically and intentionally misled each of these audiences on the effectiveness of the program. Moreover, the process undertaken by the Committee when investigating the program provided an incomplete and selective picture of what occurred. As noted in the Minority views and in a number of additional views of Members, no interviews were conducted of any CIA officers involved in the program, which would have provided Members with valuable context and perspective surrounding these events."
It's as if the conclusions were pre-ordained like every other Washington report. Bush's CIA appointees disagree too. This sounds like typical politics. More.
"The committee report concludes that the "enhanced interrogation techniques" did not provide any worthwhile intelligence. It also indicates that CIA officers themselves repeatedly questioned whether the interrogations were useful."
"GOP Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida and Jim Risch of Idaho condemned the release of the report. "This report does not qualify as either serious or constructive. This was a partisan effort that divided members of the committee, and the committee against the people of the CIA," they wrote in a joint statement. "We voted against this report because it is flawed.""
Politics.

Hoover's history of WWII shows FDR manipulated the Japanese and the US into war.
