Police State

NSA can listen in on your phone even when you think it's powered off because the normal power off doesn't completely power the phone off. Powered-off phones still communicate with towers. Apparently, people can really power off their iPhones with some bizarre code. Of course entering this firmware update mode could fry your phone, and I suspect we'll read about a rash of that happening.

Google releases alpha version of end-to-end encryption for Chrome in which Google never sees the private encryption key. This may make Chrome the most secure browser.

Local police using sealed requests for warrantless surveillance that stay sealed.

Police responding to alarm shoot and kill family dog, disappear the body and clean up the blood. They never do that. This woman is right; something is wrong with this story.

I'm all for a movement to secure the internet, but I don't do social media.
