Politics

I've long argued Republicans would rather be the minority party of big government than the majority government of small government because they get richer that way. That's why the Republican establishment crippled Goldwater's campaign, attacked Reagan with such vitriol then coopted him, and absconded with votes to count them in secret when Ron Paul won Iowa in 2012.
Pat Buchanan seems to be reluctantly realizing this. Commenting on the establishment's response to Donald Trump, Buchanan laments, "They would prefer to lose to Clinton than win with Trump."
Not that Trump is a small government candidate, but he is generally against the US wars of aggression that have become the number one issue for Republican.
Buchanan wonders if this disconnect between the Republican establishment and Republican primary voters, generally hardcore Republicans, will change the Republican party. While that would be great, I won't hold my breath.
