Apparently western plutocrats living in Kabul hadn't realized the US and NATO was losing the war in Afghanistan until the Taliban killed 21 of them while they arrogantly ate dinner at popular plutocrat restaurant.
"Almost everyone among the diplomats, aid workers and journalists based in Afghanistan personally knew at least some of the people who died in the assault on Taverne du Liban."The war was going swimmingly until somebody they personally knew died. Before then only faceless grunts were dying, and plutocrats don't care about them. This article calls these people expats, but I think plutocrats, bureaucrats and war profiteers are more accurate terms.
The Navy Times is a little more honest about returning US troops to Iraq.
"It is unclear whether troops would be sent directly into Iraq or possibly conduct training in a nearby country such as Jordan. “We are in continuing discussions about how we can improve the Iraqi military,” Army Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman, said Friday. This is crazy.
The idea of sending U.S. military trainers back to Iraq for the first time since 2011 is one the Pentagon has emphatically rejected in recent years, but on Friday, Warren offered a carefully worded statement that did not rule out the possibility."
Militants tighten grip on Fallujah.
