Obama and GM are lying about the success of the GM bailout.

"Three years ago his administration invested more than $100 billion in taxpayer money to bail out General Motors. On Tuesday, the entire company, not just what the government owns, was worth less than $34 billion. By anyone’s definition, that investment is a glaring failure."

"Claims that GM paid back its TARP loan are true but misleading. President Obama clearly wants to create the impression that all the money given to the auto companies has been paid back. But the $6.7 billion loan to GM was just a tiny fraction of the money given to it. As TARP special inspector general Neil Barofsky explained, GM used “other TARP money” to pay off the loan."

"The “million jobs” contention is quite a stretch. Before filing for bankruptcy in July 2009, GM had 91,000 employees in the United States."

"Obama’s economic advisers told him during an April 2009 meeting that job losses in the auto industry would be only a fraction — 10 to 20 percent — of these claimed numbers, even for the much weaker Chrysler. The advisers reported the obvious: Bankruptcy would not kill all jobs at GM and, even with cutbacks, suppliers would pick up other work. But Obama keeps using numbers that his own advisers told him were wrong."

"The “number-one automaker” assertion is no more accurate. Obama’s sales totals include 1.2 million mostly cheap commercial vehicles built by China’s Wuling, a company in which GM owns a small stake, and it excludes sales by vehicle makers in which Volkswagen owns a majority share. Fortune magazine lists GM’s revenue as smaller than Toyota’s and Volkswagen’s."

"As for “hundreds of thousands of new workers,” the truth is closer to a tenth of that."

Man, I love the internet. This is why the liars running government are working so hard to seize control over it.

ECONOMY:

It looks like the tech bubble is collapsing as the Facebook IPO falls short of hype. This economic collapse is happening faster than I've seen it in my lifetime, but that isn't a big deal. Anybody who didn't live through the first Great Depression can say the same.

TAX AND SPEND:

Senators defeat Obama budget 99-0.

"Coupled with the House's rejection in March, 414-0, that means Mr. Obama's budget has failed to win a single vote in support this year."

It's nice of them to unanimously show what as sham Obama's budget is.

REGULATION:

I pretty much always write for others. In this instance, I'm going to write for myself.  For years writers have used the term Orwellian to describe abuses of the state. I have suggested that for the purposes of government-granted intellectual monopolies we apply the term 'monopolian' instead of Orwellian. The story in this case is. In other words, government has decreed you can't own an android phone. If you own one, some judge just made you a crook with the stroke of a pen. But I appreciate the honesty in this article:

"Motorola (which is being acquired by Google) was the last major Android device maker not to pay off Microsoft in a patent licensing deal."

So, Motorola failed to pay off Microsoft. This is a perfect encapsulation of the corruption our country has been reduced to by government. Either you will pay off government's cronies, or you will suffer. Corruption has been thoroughly legalized, institutionalized and brutalized. Pay up or die. It's all legal. You have no recourse. Shake off your education. Think for yourself. Our country is being destroyed by institutionalized corruption.

FEDERAL RESERVE:

Yesterday the press didn't want to talk about a Greek bank run. Today, they're talking about it, but calling it a bank jog.

"There's been a quiet bank run in Greece the past three years. Since 2009, Greek banks have lost somewhere between 25 and 30 percent of their deposits. That's actually surprisingly low considering that a euro in a Greek bank doesn't look like it's worth as much as a euro in a German bank. The calculus is simple. Greece might turn its euros into cheaper drachmas and Germany won't. Why wouldn't more Greek people move their money to be safe?

Increasingly, they are. On Monday and Tuesday alone, Greeks withdrew over €1.2 billion ($1.53 billion). That's roughly 0.75 percent of remaining Greek deposits. This still-gradual bank run -- what FT Alphaville's Joseph Cotterill calls a "bank jog" -- is accelerating because Greek politics is making a Greek exit look more imminent. "

Tuesday it was 700 euros. Yesterday it was 800 then 900. Today it's 1.2 billion euros. This article inadvertently does a pretty good job of explaining how everything government, including the ECB, is doing is making things worse.

"Europe doesn't have anywhere near the bailout fund it needs ready, nor a consensus on euro bonds, nor on more aggressive ECB action. But the longer the ECB keeps Greek, Italian, and Spanish banks on life support, the greater the final cost if one of them exits -- and the greater the panic will hit the other countries in that event. The danger is that the ECB will lose its nerve -- that it will worry about potential future losses."

But no bailout fund is big enough. They more money they steal from taxpayers and hand over to government like the PIIGS, the more those politicians will use that money advance their own interests and the interests of their cronies by increasing spending and debt. The same is true for the ECB. The more money steals from the people in Europe through inflation and hands over to the PIIGS banks, the more the politicians will spend and rack up debt to advance their own interests and the interests of their cronies. There is no way out except default, and the longer it takes, the more painful it will be. It's like these people have never heard of the runaway inflation of the Weimar Republic or Zimbabwe. This article explains what's going to happen while couching it in terms that it shouldn't happen if the ECB just prints enough money to keep everybody happy.

"That would bring down the Greek banking system, or most of it, and force Greek authorities to impose capital controls. Cue Spanish, Italian and Portuguese depositors, who might follow suit and start to withdraw their own deposits, putting massive amounts of collateral into the hands of the ECB and their own central banks."

This is how it ends. The laws of economics cannot be denied any more than the laws of physics. The only question is how much worse the ECB will make the problem by printing money before it happens. It looks like Spaniards are starting their own bank run already. Moody's downgrades Spanish banks. We're going to wake up one day soon and Europeans will be wiped out. Americans will quickly follow. This is the inevitable result of decades of massive, systemic theft by politicians and central bankers. Needless to say, gold and silver are both up sharply today. What isn't mentioned in these stories are the massive, daily riots. It is insane that, while governments and bankers are on the verge of wiping out the life savings of a trillion people, Obama and the US press want to talk about gay marriage. The experts have been wrong all along, so here's some real expert advice:

"I suggest a strong economic recovery is the likely result rather than depression as forecast by experts working for the banks that have enslaved Greece."

Of course. Default on the debt. The banks will suffer, but everybody else will start with a clean slate. The rest of the eurozone countries don't want Greece to do this because it will prove the euro to be the sham the Austrians always said it was.

"Greece should repudiate the excessive sovereign debts owed primarily to German banks and restore an independent Greek currency, the Drachma at a lower and more favorable exchange rate to stimulate tourism and foreign investment. Yes there will be a short-term drop in the Greek economy but this would quickly be over in contrast to the EU created death spiral Greece has been forced to endure over the last few years and in the future."

Take your medicine, get well, then start growing again. The longer Greece, or any other country, stays in the eurozone, the more damage its people will suffer.

HEALTH CARE:

It's so absurd, I can't help but laugh, but it's not funny. I didn't know whether to post this under health care, global warming or police state. They're all the same.

Politicians cut a deal with businesses to win support for an unpopular bill? Why is this news? This is the definition of politics.

Because Amish children drink raw milk, they don't get allergies or asthma. But if you try to drink warm milk, the government will kill you to protect you.

GLOBAL WARMING AND ENERGY:

The never-ending reports by the frauds claim storms are getting worse in the midwest and governments must do something in response.

"The analysis, based on federal data, tracked extreme weather trends in Ohio and Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin."

Based on federal data. It might as well say compiled by federally funded fraud. How many times have we heard this? Every time it's debunked. There is no evidence that storms are stronger or more frequent today than in the past. In fact, we're in a hurricane lull. They say all politics is local. This might indicated a change in strategy from lying about the global effects of global warming to lying about the local effects of global warming in order to better scare people.

Contrary to what the frauds tell us, the Antarctic ice shelves haven't shown any significant change in 12 years. Also contrary to what the frauds pseudo-predict, ocean temperatures are practically flat.

POLICE STATE:

Police file Supreme Court case demanding the right to tase non-violent, pregnant women.

WAR:

Info on the two false flag underwear bombers. This is always a telling line.

Breitbart discovers a media release for Obama from 1991 reporting he was born in Kenya and worked for a CIA front organization. Is this what Breitbart was killed over? How could this have remained hidden for so long?

The Romney campaign and the Republican establishment create a new party in Nevada to get around the Paul supporters who, using party rules, took control of the Nevada Republican party. Many of us have wondered if the Republican party was relevant anymore since it was indistinguishable in any meaningful way from the Democrat party, and now seems the establishment is leaving the party, making themselves even more irrelevant in future elections. While the details are different, this is reminiscent of when the establishment refused to support Goldwater.

MEDIA:

Obama's propagandists in the press are attacking Romney donors.

How can an article saying Mary Kennedy died of hanging not mention either suicide or murder? This is a bizarre article. It's basically a hit piece on her that pretends to be sympathetic. The writer wants us to believe she committed suicide, but doesn't say it, which makes me wonder if she was murdered. It's like the writer is running interference for Robert Kennedy.

LOCAL:

The city is spending a bunch of stolen money tearing up streets and adding bike paths. Apparently they've been briefed that the Fed's inflation will drive gas prices through the roof so people will be too poor to drive.

MISC:

Minorities surpass whites in US births with 50.4 percent.

So far NASA has identified 4,700 potentially hazardous asteroids.

I understand why The Avengers has set all kinds of movie records. It's a fantastic movie. For generations, people have denigrated comic book stories, but they're some of the simplest and best stories you'll ever read. They translate well to movies. And comic book characters are some of the most interesting you'll ever read about. The Avengers captures the all the characters extremely well. The story is extremely well done. There's a clear good and evil, yet there's plenty of conflict between the heroes. All the characters are well represented. None are short changed by the story. All the characters exhibit character growth as the heroes meld into a team. The story is well done and the perfect length. There's plenty of humor but it never distracts from the dramatic story. All the characters are fantastic looking. Joss Whedon obviously loves the characters and he handled every detail of the effects incredibly well too. This is the best looking superhero movie to date. And there's a touch of real patriotism that contrasts on a heartfelt level with the phony patriotism of our declining, warlike society. This is an uplifting story for every American. It's worthy of many Oscars including best screenplay and best picture, though I doubt it will win either. The movie business is still a bubble industry, but I understand why The Avengers is at the top.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH:

Indian government proposes one world government takeover of the internet. Why mess around with the small stuff? This is most likely intended as a distraction from national governments seizing power over the internet because it will soak up a lot of press and discussion allowing national efforts to advance in relative obscurity. Our rulers are evil, but they're not dumb.

RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS:

ECONOMY:

Girdles might be a bubble industry. Robert Downey Jr. to earn $50 million for Avengers. The movie industry is definitely in a bubble.

Oh my goodness.

This sounds like a bona fide bank run in Greece.

"Greeks rushed to withdraw €800 million from Greek banks late Tuesday, fearful that they would soon be left with only less valuable currency if Greece were to return to the drachma."

Kiss the euro goodbye. I'm just amazed that very little is happening in the US. It's like nobody understands the implications of what we're watching. Or maybe the implications are becoming clear and we'll not see 13,000 on the Dow again for a long time.

"The first shot of good news came from the European Central Bank, which told CNNMoney Wednesday that it would continue to support Greek banks."

So they're going to keep stealing from all Europeans through the inflation tax and give that money to Greek bankers. How is this good news for anybody but Greek bankers? This is just making the problems worse. In the time it took me to document that article, the number as jumped to 900 million euros. At least this article in honest about a bank run.

"So said President Karolos Papoulias, according to minutes of a government meeting procured by Reuters. Papoulias, in turn, was quoting George Provopoulos, governor of the Greek Central Bank, who said depositors took out 700 million euros earlier this week and will likely withdraw at least 100 million more."

Those are important details, but clearly, the numbers are rapidly rising.

"Greeks have withdrawn 72 billion euros since January 2010, leaving bank deposits with 165 billion euros in March, according to the central bank. Social media users were buzzing Wednesday about rumors that Greek banks had set a withdrawal limit of 50 euros on accounts."

That sounds like a bank run to me. The media is now actively entertaining the idea that Greece may leave the eurozone as many Austrian economists have predicted would happen for years. If you think back on it, the Greek government has been marching steadily toward leaving the eurozone. All the histrionics were just excuses to steal more money from European taxpayers. A Greek exit has been inevitable for years. According to this headline, the experts have finally owned up to this reality:

For years the so-called experts told us that the euro was fine and that the bailouts would solve the problems in Greece and the rest of PIIGS. They were wrong. They were probably lying, not just mistaken. In order to keep their unwarranted reputation as experts, they've suddenly pivoted to the position the real experts have been espousing for years.

HEALTH CARE:

The Daily Mail has discovered that natural fats are good for you. It's establishment masters must be furious.

POLICE STATE:

Injuries for Zimmerman and Martin sure make it look like Martin attacked Zimmerman, but again, it's all about who initiated the conflict, and we have only Zimmerman's word on that. MSNBC does it again:

"Martin was black; Zimmerman is a white man of Hispanic heritage"

I keep waiting for them to call President Obama a white man of African heritage, but I haven't seen it yet.

How many people do you think the government has listening in our conversations and reading our texts and emails? I'd have gone with a shining drone over a hill, but I do like predator nation, foolishly supporting our predator government.

This is why our country is in such rapid decline.

This is important to realize. The bad systems were created by supposedly good people. Only afterwards did bad people take control of the system. That's because the bad systems required evil men, as Hayek said men who believed the ends justify the means, to run them. You have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.

Writer makes fun of Americans for being more worried about cyber-threats than terrorism, but this makes perfect sense. Terrorism has never been a big threat in America. The government just uses terrorism as an excuse to loot and bully us. But cyber-security is a real issue. It seems like every other week somebody steals millions of credit card numbers. Anonymous hacks some computer and publishes all their emails. Identity theft is a growing crime. Americans should be worried about cyber-security, but we should end this outrageous war on terror that is making us prisoners in our own country.

FOREIGN POLICY:

Because the US is no longer a symbol of freedom and good, foreign kids no longer dream of America.

POLITICS:

Obama is getting rich by being president.

Despite the nation's $15.6 trillion debt, he is a believer in government paper. More than half his assets are in Treasury bills and notes.

The disclosure statement lists assets and liabilities in dollar ranges, so pinpointing the president's net worth is difficult. His assets appear to tally between $2.6 million and $9.9 million. He holds a mortgage on his Chicago home of $500,000 to $1 million."

So Obama is heavily invested with Wall Street cronies he protects from competition and bails out. What a shocker. More Obama Wall Street hypocrisy.

Romney leader in Arizona refuses deal from Paul supporters to take a majority of delegates to Tampa so the Paul supporters will go with a strong majority.

Obama's gay marriage gambit may not give him numbers, but it has excited his base - the media are all tingly again - and that's important. Romney closes gender gap. I've always said that the person who wins the presidency is the man most women would prefer to see in his underwear. I believe this has been true in every election in my lifetime.  Lew Rockwell must have noticed something similar because he believes that Romney is closing the gender gap because he's better looking than Obama. His stand on marriage may have helped him with women too.

Financial workers and government workers are most likely to cheat their employers. That's because the banks and government use coercion to make their money. They are inherently corrupt therefore they attract bad people and they corrupt good people.

ECONOMY:

Ohio joins Michigan, Illinois, New England states and California as among the worst states for small businesses.

When I started writing this blog four years ago, I believed the value was in archiving articles so I could search for them as sources for the essays I wrote in the Dayton City Paper. Over the years, this blog has badly failed to meet that criteria. I rarely find an article I archived for that purpose. I do much better searching Google or Duckduckgo. But it has served a greater purpose. It's provided me a tool to examine related articles I would never have noticed before and link them together for anybody to see.

For example, the USA Today reports...

"Americans may be downbeat about today's economy, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, but they are increasingly optimistic that things are about to get better for the nation and themselves."

Since I know better, I couldn't help but wonder why this is. Fortunately, the Dayton Daily News answered my query and put the USA Today story in perspective...

"U.S. consumers continue to reach for their credit cards and sign off on auto loans at a brisk clip, boosting borrowing twice as fast as most economists had predicted."

So government's crooks, liars and propagandists have fooled the American people into going deeper into dept, and because of our fractional reserve banking system, debt creates dollars which make people feel wealthier. Dollars are debt masquerading as wealth. More debt produces more dollars produces a greater illusion of wealth which produces more optimism. We're so screwed. This is why government debt, consumer debt and investment debt is so important to the establishment. Without it, our money supply, because it's based on debt, would shrink dramatically and we'd suffer a major, general deflation. This deflation would be great for regular folks. Think about how nice it would be if your groceries cost half as much next week as they did last week. But it would be terrible for the rich and our ruling class because their investments would also be cut in half. Or more.

Pat Buchanan is just beginning to understand the implications of our collapsing economy.

"Only 63.6 percent of the U.S. working age population is now in the labor force, the lowest level since December 1981."

That was in the middle of a big recession. Our population is tremendously larger now.

"The number of Americans of working age not in the labor force grew in April from 87,897,000 to 88,419,000 – by an astonishing 522,000. This is an immense army for the rest of society to carry."

Not an army. More like a funeral pyre, but still needing water, food and shelter. This is one of the reasons liberals encourage abortions. Because of the welfare state they have created, they want to keep the burden of it from growing so fast. The liberal encouragement of abortion by welfare recipients is a form of eugenics.

I don't care about JP Morgan losses. The losses should be a private matter between investors, executives, owners and the board. I care about government intervention that enabled JP Morgan losses. I care that those losses might inspire greater protection of the To Big To Fail businesses like JP Morgan, enabling them to suffer more losses without repercussions. I fear that government might try to use violence to break it's creature - JP Morgan - apart. The losses don't matter. The situation created by government that enabled them and the violence that government may respond with matter.

Obama has opened up the culture war in a way nobody has done since Jimmy Carter. What a horrible man. Both of them. I hate to say this, but I remember when I recognized how much charisma Bill Clinton had, what opportunity he had to do good, and how disgusted I was when he squandered it on his personal, perverted self-interest. I hate to admit, as libertarian as I already was, I hoped for the best. In fact, Clinton helped me realize that only the worst rise to the top of government, whether stupid or evil. He was evil. Obama is even worse. At least neither of the Bushes had charisma to squander so they couldn't disappoint me in that regard. So why is it Democrats always have had all the charisma lately and Republicans haven't? That's not perfectly fair. McCain had no charisma. John Kerry had no charisma. Al Gore had no charisma. Bob Dole had no charisma. Maybe the question is how come Democrats are so bad that even though they often have charisma, Republicans with no charisma generally beat them? Could it be rhetoric? It's rhetoric.

Ron Paul suspends spending in states that haven't voted yet. This doesn't mean he's dropped out of the race as some are saying. He's still on the ballot in every state. He still wants voters to vote for him in every state. He's just using his money to greatest effect. At this moment, despite Paul's efforts, most Paul supporters remain independent.

"Forty-five percent of Paul supporters said they would vote for Romney in the general election, and 39 percent said they would vote to reelect Obama. When libertarian Gary Johnson is thrown into the mix, 16 percent say they’ll vote for him with Obama dropping to 35 percent and Romney dropping to 31 percent."

I'm in the Johnson camp, though I don't support Johnson. I will not vote for the establishment. I can't free myself by voting for a tyrant, whether it be a slightly lesser tyrant or not. I believe this story is related to the euro story. The collapse is coming. It doesn't matter who is president. It's coming. I believe Paul made the calculation that the collapse will hit before 2016, so he's keeping his powder dry so his son can win in 2016. The big question we have to ask now is will the collapse come before November. It very well could. The euro appears to be in dire straits. But at the same time, a collapse of the euro could lend temporary support to the dollar as people look for safe havens.

Some Ron Paul supporters are upset. Too bad. It's one thing to support freedom. It's another to be childish. Paul has to make the best decisions he can given his financial resources. I'm sure he wishes he had millions of more dollars to contest the remaining popular votes. But he doesn't. One of the reasons so many people support him is because he's fiscally responsible. It doesn't pay to attack him for being fiscally responsible now.

The Marxist focus on jobs instead of wealth creation produces idiotic programs like this one in which money stolen from taxpayers is used to destroy wealth in the name of job creation. The value of demolition, like the value of anything else, can only be determined a voluntary marketplace.

It's not a win for the people who had their money stolen - taxpayers - and their property destroyed.

Because abortion occurs at the intersection of the rights of three people, there is no perfect answer. For those who claim abortion is murder, they must also claim that every would-be mother who choses abortion is a murderer. They refuse to adopt the logical consequence of their position, so they cannot be taken seriously. Nobody knows the answer to this problem, but it's impossible for the federal government to adopt the best policy. Like murder, assault, theft and other crimes, this is an issue for the states. Let federalism work. For me personally, coercion can never be the answer. The answer lies in freedom, education and economic opportunity. In that environment, higher morality will prevail.

I don't buy it. If these people really wanted to hire, they'd raise the wage and hire in slightly less qualified people and train them. Whenever companies say they can't find workers they're really saying they aren't willing to pay the market rate for workers which means they don't really want workers. In our crappy economy, that going rate is pretty low (although it's artificially inflated by government intervention). Something tells me they're intentionally setting standards above the market and keep wages below the market because they gain something from the government by pretending they want to hire. It probably protects them from government aggression. The article eventually gets to the truth:

"Challenger said the economy is growing so slowly that most companies are having little trouble meeting demand for their goods and services with workers already on the payroll."

Exactly. But they gain something by pretending to want to hire. There is a flip side:

"“Workers are trolling in a sense, too,” he said. “They’re saying I could take that job and work for less than I want, but I’m not willing to sell my services at that level.”"

Unemployment benefits plus the value of not having to work are keeping people from taking jobs.

David Stockman describes why I've quit using the term crony capitalism in favor of crony-anti-capitalism.

It's not capitalism, so we shouldn't call it crony capitalism. It's socialism in the form of crony-anti-capitalism. He also explains why the claims that our financial system was going to collapse in 2008 were lies.

The banking system was never in trouble. Only Wall Street banks were in trouble, and they should have gone bankrupt.

"The run was on investment banks that were really hedge funds in financial drag. The Goldmans and Morgan Stanleys did not really need trillion-dollar balance sheets to do mergers and acquisitions. Mergers and acquisitions do not require capital; they require a good Rolodex. They also did not need all that capital for the other part of investment banking – the underwriting business. Regulated stocks and bonds get underwritten through rigged cartels – they almost never under-price and really don't need much capital. Their trillion dollar balance sheets, therefore, were just massive trading operations – whether they called it customer accommodation or proprietary is a distinction without a difference – which were funded on 30 to 1 leverage. Much of the debt was unstable hot money from the wholesale and repo market and that was the rub – the source of the panic. Bernanke thought this was a retail run à la the 1930s. It was not; it was a wholesale money run in the canyons of Wall Street and it should have been allowed to burn out."

So Stockman believes Bernanke was stupid, not evil. It could be. He's constantly wrong. Here's Stockman's investment advice:

"My investing model is ABCD: Anything Bernanke Cannot Destroy: flashlight batteries, canned beans, bottled water, gold, a cabin in the mountains."

Bottled water is an interesting choice. It'll be tough to socialist water supplies to survive the collapse. Maybe the same for socialist electricity.

FEDERAL RESERVE:

Ron Paul is the undisputed champion of liberty in US politics. But why has the public, by all poll said to distrust the federal government, failed to embrace him? For years I've said Paul's problem is he's a suck-up to the status quo.If Paul had taken a principled resistance to coercion, I think he'd be on the verge of winning the presidency. But he didn't. Instead he deferred to the sociopathic criminal around him on camera. Here's an example:

Dreamers wonder about the advantages of driverless cars, but they're wrong about congestion. Congestion would be worse because the automated cars couldn't creatively maneuver to get out of congestion. In fact, traffic might end up being permanent if computers fell into deadlock and no creative was empowered to break the deadlock. It would also take longer to get anywhere in general because the cars would never speed even it was perfectly safe to do so. This would lead to more cars on the roads and more congestion. It would cost more fuel, more wear on the cars and more road wear. Also, government would be able to track everybody at all times as they drove. The downsides far outweigh the upsides except for people who can't, or shouldn't, drive themselves.

The FDIC claims it can guide formerly too big to fail banks to bankruptcy. It's look there's some rivalry going on between the FDIC and the Fed. The Fed exists to keep big banks afloat, and the FDIC can't stop it from printing money and giving it to these banks.
