Obama appoints former Microsoft exec as head government cyber-warrior. This isn't be good. National security my ass. Look for Microsoft to get a bunch of sweetheart deals, and look for government to make ever more excuses to restrict speech on the internet. The free market is far better equipped to secure the internet than government. We still have Cold War dinosaurs trying to secure America in the 21st century. Imagine how far behind the times government will be trying to secure the daily evolution of the internet. Hint: It will stop the daily evolution of the internet so it can try and keep up. Iran will be the model.

FASCISM:

Walter Williams explains why minimum wage laws lead to teen unemployment and hit black teens especially hard.

"Put yourself in the place of an employer and ask: If I must pay to whomever I hire $7.25 an hour, plus mandated fringes such as Social Security, vacation, health insurance, unemployment insurance, does it pay me to hire a worker who is so unfortunate so as to have a skill level that allows him to contribute only $5 worth of value an hour? Most employers would view hiring such a person a losing economic proposition. Therefore, the primary effect of a minimum wage law is that of discrimination against the employment of low-skilled workers."

ECONOMY:

After taking a trillion dollars from us by force to fix the housing market, the market is still down. The market is trying valiantly to correct itself and heal the damage, but government keeps piling on more damage. I like how the argument just assumes policy makers should be fixing the problem.

I'm not so sure that reviving RV sales is a positive sign for the economy. It probably means people are RVing instead of taking their formerly expensive vacations. This article strikes me as trying to find something positive to talk about when all the news it bad. It reminds me of an article I read about the Iraq war after the surge that did just the opposite by complaining that grave diggers were having trouble finding work.

One of the reasons I started this blog is so I could look up old articles I read and reference them, but I can rarely find one. I can't find the Iraqi grave digger article that I know I linked.

What do you think the consequences of a 400 percent excise tax on the financial industry will be? You know how Obama pretends to want companies to make loans? How will they do that with their expenses raised so much and their ability to gain returns severely curtailed? This is an attempt to destroy the financial industry and thereby cripple every business in America.

Turnover is high on many stocks because of unwillingness to hold long-term positions under conditions of high uncertainty. They will demand a higher risk premium as they are made to depart from their preferred portfolio holdings. This will drive up capital costs to corporations. This will slow down capital accumulation and growth. This will lower employment and wages."

Nice summary of consequences.

"A stabilizing trade might go as follows. Buy $100,000 of stock that has fallen 4 percent in one day because one estimates that the selling has gone too far too fast. Sell it the next day after a rise of 1.5 percent for the opposite reason, that the buying is going too far to fast. Gross Profit: $1,500. The transactions tax is $500 of this profit or 33 percent of the gain. In addition, there is the short-term capital gains tax that is perhaps 28 percent. Then there are the inevitable losses that this speculation faces."

This tax is written to be on the trade in order to fool the public into thinking it's tiny, but traders make far less money on trades than the value of the trade as this example shows.

TAX AND SPEND:

It wasn't that long ago that corn subsidies driving up the price of food was a big deal. But then government created far bigger problems for us, and that issue disappeared off the map.

FEDERAL RESERVE:

Author claims because the Fed serves as a lender of last resort and fractional reserve banking allows banks to create money out of thin air, banks must be regulated.

"These five Securities & Exchange Commission commissioners sealed the future fate of the American economy on that day in 2004 when they approved an appeal by five investment banks (Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Merrill-Lynch, Bear Stearns and Morgan-Stanley) to expand their reserve ratios – that is, take greater risks with the public’s money. This was done by consent of the regulators and their politically-appointed bosses during the Bush II administration."

That sounds odd coming from a libertarian website, but it shows how government interference in the economy always creates problems that demand more government interference in the economy. The solution is put an end the Fed and adopt a banking system based solely on voluntary exchange.

New provision in health care bill stops insurance companies from modifying premiums for gun owners. Huh? Did some "moderate" Democrat demand that for his vote?

Democrats trying to get Republicans to roll over and allow a vote before 11PM Christmas Eve. I say not only no, but hell know. The longer Republicans delay, the better chance the people have of flipping one Democrat.

This is not the end of health care oppression. Democrats won't stop until they get they've strangled private health insurance and health care to death and seized single-payer control of life and death decisions over every American. This bill, designed to fail every criteria we've been told it addresses, is just a vehicle to dramatically accelerate that process.

GLOBAL WARMING:

Now the global warming frauds are coming for our pet dogs.

"Man's best friend could be one of the environment's worst enemies, according to a new study which says the carbon pawprint of a pet dog is more than double that of a gas-guzzling sports utility vehicle."

Big mistake. They just alienated every dog owner in the world who previously had fallen for their fraud. Fools love to use the club of government on others - that's what they call good government - but when that club swings at them, they get a new perspective. Then it's bad government.

POLITICS:

Conservatives trying to re-write history just like liberals and blame the 2009 deficit on Obama. The 2009 budget was passed under Bush and fiscal 2009 began while Bush was in office. Obama added to it, but not much. Politics is dishonesty. Anybody who votes for a politician based on what he or she says is a fool. The two parties have divided us and are conquering us with the help of liberals and conservatives who fell for the bull**** of one of the parties.

MISC:

HP's webcam face tracking software won't track black people. What a disaster. Surely they tested it on black people. Surely this is a fluke, but a nightmare fluke. HP better find some white people it can't track too. If it turns out they didn't test it on black people, the company may go down in flames.

At the end of an essay explaining freedom of speech, Mike Adams seems to have caught a hint of how the conservative movement is fundamentally and destructively similar to the liberal movement - neither respects private property.

Not some. All. If you vote for any Republican, you don't support private property rights.

You are what you vote. If you vote for a candidate who wants to use force to violate the property rights of another (and all Republicans support this), you don't respect property rights. All conservatives vote for candidates who use government to force their will on others, therefore all conservatives support using government to force their will on others.

If you're part of the movement to steal trillions of dollars from the citizens of rich nations, transfer that money to oppressive governments of poor nations, skim off your share, and enshrine yourself as a leader in the new world government responsible for this wealth transfer, and the pseudo-scientific basis for your claim is suddenly and spectacularly exposed as a fraud, what do you do? Ignore it? Pretend it's no big deal? Attack the messenger? Or all of the above?

Followers of the anthropogenic global warming (AGW) movement have long known the movement was a fraud. In 2001 the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published Michael Mann's fraudulent hockey stick graph developed in 1999 at Penn State University from funding by taxpayers. This graph was so outrageously fraudulent, flying in the face of all available temperature records, that it was laughable, but because Mann refused to make his taxpayer funded data public for taxpayers to review, it took years for statistician Steve McIntyre and others to refute it. After the refutation, the IPCC and Mann withdrew the graph.

Public review of data is essential to science. Science is an inherently skeptical process, and for centuries scientists have made their data (and in the modern age, programs) publicly available so other scientists could repeat their experiments, review the analysis and draw their own conclusions. The hockey stick fraud first hinted at how billions of taxpayer dollars poisoned by political agendas had corrupted climate
research. Not long after, McIntyre exposed that NASA scientist James Hansen, Al Gore's right-hand man who also tried to hide his data, had similarly manipulated his temperature data to make it appear that recent temperatures were higher than they actually were. NASA was forced to correct the temperature record and admit that 1934 and 1998 are tied as the hottest years since recording began in 1880, but taxpayers are still paying Hansen's salary at NASA. Meteorologist Anthony Watts of wattsupwiththat.com has documented how the vast majority of climate stations used to collect that data are fraudulently placed near heat sources to artificially inflate the temperature data.

The AGW supporters claimed these were isolated mistakes, but skepticism grew. At every conference they held, record cold and snow struck, feeding skepticism. It's so common that skeptics have dubbed it the Gore Effect. Documenting the many lies in Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth, not least of which is the lie that CO2 causes global warming - in fact CO2 increases follow global warming by about 800 years as the oceans slowly outgas CO2 - also led to increased skepticism. Gore pronouncing scientific consensus, a political concept, not a scientific one, backed AGW invited more skepticism.

But in the run-up to the Copenhagen climate conference, a whistleblower blew the lid off of the AGW conspiracy by publishing emails, raw data and computer programs from the preeminent climate research facility in the world, Climate Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia, UK. The emails show this cadre of political agents posing as scientists - the CRU researchers, Mann, Hansen and others around the world - systematically manipulated, cherry-picked, faked, hid and destroyed data to make their results match the AGW political agenda. Privately they're embarrassed they can't explain the global cooling since 1998, but publicly they pretend it doesn't exist. By controlling so much taxpayer funding, these pseudo-scientists at the heart of the IPCC corrupted scientific journal editorial staffs, news reporters and the peer review process. They would peer review each other's papers and pronounce them legitimate in the same way the Sopranos or Corleones might peer review each other's activities and pronounce them legitimate.

As if from the Theater of the Absurd, the left downplays the emails as open to interpretation, but the programs and data are even more damning because they're not. The raw data simply doesn't support the AGW claim. The programs torture the data to fit the political agenda attached to the government money funding the pseudo-science. This manipulation was done to hide the Medieval Warm period, a period 1,000 years ago with higher temperatures than today, and make it appear hotter today. CRU Director Phil Jones and Mann are under investigation. Scientists are calling for criminal charges. Their careers are over. Jones has already stepped down. The UK government is strong-arming scientists to support the CRU, but the damage is done.

Gore and his cadre of frauds know their scam is blown, but the stakes are so high and they're so close that they're making a last ditch effort to rob us blind in Copenhagen. Speakers are attacking capitalism and western wealth with the fervor of desperation. Declaring CO2 - an essential ingredient for life - a dangerous pollutant is like declaring water a dangerous pollutant, but the frauds have hope because President Obama had his EPA do just that. How ironic that the Danes just uncovered massive corruption in their cap and trade scheme. Our saving grace may be that the merchantilists and the communists won't be able to reach an agreement over which will rule the world.

Greenland ice cores show that the planet is significantly cooler today than the norm for the last 10,000 years. Climate changed naturally for over 4 billion years, and it's changing naturally today, but since government funds virtually all science, all Gore and company had to do to create this fraud was funnel billions in tax dollars to scientists who supported it. Scientists who support the fraud live like kings. Excepting a few with tenure, scientists who don't support it struggle. It's that easy for central planners to create the most dangerous fraud since the communist paradise.

Al Gore presides over the fraud of the century, making $100 million
since 2000. Given the trillions at stake, Gore makes Bernie Madoff look
like a kid who stole lunch money, but he'll escape prosecution. Look for Gore and his conspirators to throw Jones and Mann overboard to save themselves, grab more control over science, and crank up their next alarmist scam - exploiting global cooling and subsequent famine.

HEALTH CARE:

Using tax dollars to buy votes from senators is typical in Senate health care oppression bill. Don't you love that Harry Reid is using our tax dollars taken from us by force to buy votes for a bill we don't want? This is a reminder that all our aristocrats care about, while they pretend to take principled stands when the cameras are rolling, is their own power. Nelson thinks this will enable him to win reelection even though he sold us down the river.

Excerpt from a doctor character in Atlas Shrugged portends what will happen in our health care system after government seizes it.

"[My skill] was what I would not place at the disposal of men whose sole qualification to rule me was their capacity to spout the fraudulent generalities that got them elected to the privilege of enforcing their wishes at the point of a gun."

That's my favorite line too.

It looks like if somebody can delay Sen. Lieberman from getting back to Washington, Democrats will fail to get this monstrosity passed on Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas nd bad health to all.

By voting for Republicans and Democrats every election, surrendering our power on a daily basis to the most power-hungry, corrupt, self-serving monsters in America, the collective we did this to ourselves. In the choice between give me liberty or give me death, we chose death and Congress is going to give it to us on Christmas eve.

"From the outset, the White House's core claim was that reform would reduce health costs for individuals and businesses, and they're sticking to that story. And on and on."

GLOBAL WARMING:

David Rockefeller calls for population control to fight global warming, showing that he's no supporter of free markets as liberals want us to think.

WAR:

If this is true, this decision is meaningless. In order for a person to be an enemy combatant, the US must be fighting a war declared by Congress in which case the Supreme Court has no jurisdiction. Not that any branch of government would ever limit its power to those enumerated in the Constitution.

POLITICS:

I've been calling to wipe every incumbent out of Congress for nearly two decades. I'm glad GOOOH finally joined the cause and are doing more about it than I ever did. Then again, maybe they got the idea from this blog. This is why we're not going to see a repeat of 1994. Nobody, not even the most die hard Republican voter, is looking forward to Republicans being in charge again. But gridlock is looking really good right now.

Embarrassing congressman Grayson, I hate that he's associated with the audit the Fed bill, wants to imprison woman for pretending to be a constituent of his and starting website critical of him. I don't know about imprisonment, but fraud is a crime. This shouldn't be a personal thing. He should leave her alone, but if she's pretending to be a constituent when she's not, she's committed fraud and the police should arrest her and end it. You can't have it both ways. Either profiting from lies is a crime (fraud) orAl Gore can rob us blind. I support the rule of law.

66 percent of Americans want a smaller government with fewer services and lower taxes. Even 51 percent of Democrats. But based on what principle? This is the normal balance in the American electorate, the great libertarian mainstream of America, that the Republicans feed on while growing government at every opportunity. Is it OK to take 30 percent of our property by force? How about 20 percent? 10 percent? Is OK if voters voted to take money from others by force instead of having masked bandits do it? What's the difference? If we say 1 percent is OK, then we've surrendered all our freedom because there's no principle involved, Our government is all powerful but benevolent, and we're just slaves of our government and poorer slaves will use the vote to try and steal more money from the better off slaves to pad their own bank accounts. We know this is the inevitable result of democracy. We're living it.

Either our government has the power to seize our property by force or we're free. Both cannot be true. The US is not supposed to be a democracy. The Constitution defines the US government as a constitutional republic with severely limited powers. But because we voted for Republicans and Democrats instead of people who respect the Constitution as written, we're being consumed by the most dangerous form of government ever - democracy.

As a self-actualized libertarian, I've often enjoyed the tortured rationalizations played out on Mises.org of why we have the rights we do. No rationalization can explain our rights, though many come close. Our rights are natural. That's all there is to it. But violence is also natural to us. Forcing one's will on others is one of the most powerful instincts humans possess. I tend to base my libertarianism on natural rights, but I have to exorcise that conflict.

So I was wondering what libertarianism is in that context. Liberty is freedom of action including freedom of movement, expression, association, self-defense, etc. but excluding aggression against another except in defense of self or others. I decided that libertarianism is the search for a rationalization that justifies liberty. I used to think these rationalizations were cute and entertaining until I became bored with them, but I've decided they're a worthy endeavor since I've yet to see one that's satisfying. The crux is identifying at what point one's behavior becomes aggressive and justifies another's defense of self or other. I think framing the debate as I just did might be rationalization enough, though clearly no two people will ever agree on that boundary. I don't know that rationalizations including bodies, children, rights or anything else add anything to my position.

FASCISM:

Check out the ignorance in this article which complains that Obama wasn't fascist enough to fully take advantage of the financial crisis. Just amazing.

It just struck me that the phrase "give me liberty or give me death" takes on a whole new meaning when the government is trying to seize control of our health care system. That's what the health care debate is about - liberty versus death by government decree. I put this under fascism on purpose.

"An inherent aspect of fascist economies was economic dirigisme^[18], meaning an economy where the government exerts strong directive influence, and effectively controls production and allocation of resources. In general, apart from the nationalizations of some industries, fascist economies were based on private property and private initiative, but these were contingent upon service to the state.^[19]"

If that doesn't describe all of the Obamacare bills, I don't know what does.

HEALTH CARE:

So Democrats not only used the stick of threatening to pull strategic command out of Colorado to get Ben Nelson's vote, but gave him the carrot of extra Medicaid assistance like Louisiana got. This is blatant vote buying.

GLOBAL WARMING:

How the climategate conspirators corrupted science journals.

"Messrs. Mann and Wigley also didn't like a paper I published in Climate Research in 2002. It said human activity was warming surface temperatures, and that this was consistent with the mathematical form (but not the size) of projections from computer models. Why? The magnitude of the warming in CRU's own data was not as great as in the models, so therefore the models merely were a bit enthusiastic about the effects of atmospheric carbon dioxide.

Mr. Mann called upon his colleagues to try and put Climate Research out of business. "Perhaps we should encourage our colleagues in the climate research community to no longer submit to, or cite papers in, this journal," he wrote in one of the emails. "We would also need to consider what we tell or request of our more reasonable colleagues who currently sit on the editorial board."

After Messrs. Jones and Mann threatened a boycott of publications and reviews, half the editorial board of Climate Research resigned. People who didn't toe Messrs. Wigley, Mann and Jones's line began to experience increasing difficulty in publishing their results."

There's more. That's politics, not science.

OMG, this is a good article. Now that we dodged the worst of this bullet, we can laugh, but we can't forget that Obama is still taking money from us by force and giving it to his tyrant buddies ruling third world countries in the name of AGW.

POLITICS:

One of Obama's ignorant voters admits he screwed up. Please, sir, never vote again. Leave voting to the grown ups who actually do the work to understand who the candidates are and what their agenda is before the election. How do idiots like this get jobs writing about politics? His boss should be so embarrassed by the ignorance of this man whom he provides a platform for like he know something, he should fire him then resign. Nothing Obama has done has been surprising.

More and more people are coming to the conclusion that Obama is the most dangerous president in history. It's hard top Lincoln though. I don't think Obama will succeed in killing more than 600,000 Americans, but not because he wouldn't mind. I'm sure if he thought he could implement his Marxist vision for America by using the military, he wouldn't mind killing millions of resisters. But America hasn't degenerated that far yet, so he can't do it yet. We're close, but not yet. If he succeeds in totally collapsing our economy before the 2012 election, he'll turn the military on us for sure. And anybody who's surprised by that should renounce voting forever because what else would you expect from a life-long partner of Bill Ayers, Rev. Wright, a disciple of Saul Alinsky and Cloward and Piven and a student and teacher of ACORN?

These people should do us all a favor and never vote again.

Wright; if you ignored his dedication to Alinsky, Cloward and Piven; if you ignored or were too lazy to discover any of these things, you're part of the problem. Please do the the country a favor and never vote again.

I think Democrats are smart to point out that the Republicans who want to take back the House and Senate in 2010 are the same Republicans who governed so horribly since 2000. They haven't changed a thing. I agree that this will not be like 1994 because nobody likes Republicans either. In 1994, Newt engineered a positive agenda that capitalized on Reagan's success. The Republicans have no positive agenda and no success to capitalize on. If they try to claim to be the party of small or limited government, the voters will laugh all the way to the polls. Both parties suck, and the people understand that. Unfortunately, voters will continue voting for the two parties once again hoping for a different result - what Einstein correctly labeled insanity - and blaming the other side for our problems. Our election process is driven much more strongly by emotion and animal instinct than intelligent thought and analysis.

ECONOMY:

The US is preparing to quash unrest in case of an "unforeseen" economic collapse. Unforeseen my ass. Obama is engineering it.

Is 2010 the year of the next big crash? Foreclosures are still going up. I don't know where this guy comes up with his claim that Bernanke will back off quantitive easing (code for inflating the money supply), but he's certainly right that the economy is being strangled by design.

Peter Schiff explains the consequences of the falling dollar on the stock market.

"But people need to understand that just because stock prices are going up, it doesn't mean they're richer because they own those stocks. Stock prices are rising more slowly than the dollar is falling. They may have more dollars when they sell their stocks, but they'll be able to buy less stuff.
If you really want to see what's happening with stock prices, and take the inflation out of it to find the real value, then you look at stock prices in terms of gold. Right now the Dow is worth about nine ounces of gold. In 2000, the Dow was worth 43 ounces. So even though the Dow is only down slightly in dollar terms for the last decade, it's down 70% in gold terms. I think next year the Dow could fall precipitously in terms of gold. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Dow down to five ounces of gold, which is a significant fall."

It's hard for us to imagine we're getting poorer as our portfolios expand, we've never experienced that, but that's what government has done to us. Schiff thinks China is creating a bubble, but it won't burst soon, so he's riding it up. He also thinks real unemployment could reach 25 percent before Obama leaves office.

How Obama's policies keep banks from lending to small businesses.

TAX AND SPEND:

Treasury uses accounting gimmicks to break debt limit without congressional approval. The law means nothing to Obama, and his administration is the most lawless since FDR. He said he wanted to have a presidency like FDR and Lincoln who presided over the two most destructive periods in US history, so I guess Americans have to suffer like we did under FDR and Lincoln.

The average federal bureaucrats earns $30,000 more per year than the average private sector worker. We did this to ourselves. We are the stupidest, most ignorant, or both voters in the world.

Three charts comparing the average annual growth in spending under every president between Eisenhower and Bush, inclusive. We talk about the explosion in welfare state spending, but that was reduced dramatically after Ford. On overall spending, Bush the Younger only comes in third behind Ford and LBJ, which surprised me. Only Eisenhower cut spending.

John Stossel says government shouldn't take our money by force then give a small portion of it back with strings attached. That sounds kind of common sense to me.

FEDERAL RESERVE:

Gulf oil producing states to produce new currency based on the euro model to replace the dollar that's being destroyed by Ben Bernanke, Pharaoh Obama and Lord Geithner.

"Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar are to launch the first phase next year, creating a Gulf Monetary Council that will evolve quickly into a full-fledged central bank. "

I still think it would be more human if those three crooks just nuked the US and got it over with instead of torturing the US to destruction. Of course Greenspan-Bernanke, Bush and Paulson were destroying the dollar too, just not quite as fast.

The case for catastrophic deflation - nobody wants the dollar no matter how many Bernanke prints. I would say that almost certainly won't happen. The people of Zimbabwe and the Wiemar Republic didn't give up their currency when they were carting it around in wheelbarrows. How come I can't borrow a hundred million from the Fed at zero interest and pay it back whenever, if ever, I feel like it?

You know, if they really wanted to fix the housing bubble that brought down our economy, Bernanke could have just printed enough money to pay off all the mortgages that were in jeopardy.

HEALTH CARE:

Harry Reid gets his 60 votes - for now. They're expecting a vote Christmas Eve, so we have until then to convince one non-Republican to vote against this still secret bill. Ben Nelson and Lieberman are possible targets.

How Obama used thug tactics to get Democrats to vote for this health care oppression bill. I'm sure this goes on all the time, but it's using taxpayer dollars to bribe and extort others. Our political system is organized crime.

Five whoppers Obama is telling about Obamacare.

They're even lying to each other.
GLOBAL WARMING:

The Copenhagen crowd signs off on US backed agreement. What else were they going to do? Say, "No, we're not going to take your money."? Boortz's take is pretty good:

"Our Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, has pledged $100 billion dollars A YEAR to "developing nations" to help them fight global warming. That's promising $100 billion a year that we don't have to fight a problem that doesn't exist."

That about sums it up. But he's wrong about this being just about Obama. McCain fell for the global warming fraud too and supported cap and trade.

Will the arctic fox replace the polar bear as the fraudulent face of global warming? Since polar bears are thriving, that would be smart, but you can't pictures of arctic foxes on ice flows.

I don't want any of these tiny cars. They look like kids' toys.

But Obama is trying to make us as poor as possible as fast as possible to punish us for having the temerity to get wealthy. He'll probably give them more. Remember a $100 billion a year at $50K per job is 2 million jobs lost.

This is a conspiracy of fraud on an unprecedented scale.

WAR ON DRUGS:

CRIMINAL JUSTICE:

Speeding laws are not about safety. They're about money. Government has discovered it's way more politically palatable to fund its activities with confiscatory penalties for pseudo-criminal activity than by raising taxes, so government is criminalizing everything and imposing draconian fines on those pseudo-criminal activities. For a long time now, the main function of police has been to be uniform tax collectors, and it's getting worse fast.

Prosecutors intimidate defense witnesses. This is the rule, not the exception. Happily, the judge dismissed the case with prejudice, but he didn't have the prosecutors arrested. He would have had you or I arrested.

Even the optimists portend gloom and doom in Afghanistan.

POLITICS:

The Houston Chronicle has been no fan of Ron Paul, but it says he's gaining respect. If we'd have had enough respect for him to elect him in 1988, we wouldn't be in this mess. If we'd have had enough respect for him to elect him in 2008, we'd be on our way to recovery instead of going deeper into depression.

Obama's rhetorical gimmicks meant to mislead the public. I don't see how these beacons of lies help him. He misleads by telling people what they want to hear, as dishonest as it is.

FOREIGN POLICY:

Ron Paul doesn't support new sanctions on Iran. I'd like to know his plan on stopping Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Do nothing is not an option, but what is the best thing? I'm afraid the only effective option we have left is credibly threatening to either blockade refined petroleum or bomb their nuclear facilities. If we had credibly threatened to bomb or bombed North Korea five years ago to stop its nuclear program, Iran would have happily bargained to avoid the same thing.

MISC:

Democrat thinks the Constitution makes Congress our daddy, but he can't seem to point out the line that does it. I'm sure he means the general welfare clause. Hamilton stuck us good with that one, just like he intended.

I want a constitutional amendment that says nobody in federal government shall be exempt from any law.

The downside of professionalism:

I never thought of that. I always thought of professionalism as a positive.

How competing for government grants has damaged science.

We should always be skeptical of scientific claims, but never more so than now. But there is a scientific method. People claiming to be scientists who don't follow the method are pseudo-scientists.

When government funds science, it's inevitable that political motivations will corrupt the process.

Parents should let underage kids drink alcohol to demystify it so they don't abuse it when they get older.

I used to solve the most difficult engineering problems I faced by sleeping. Sleeping well before tests helped me do well in school. I've always known that sleep was key to memory, creativity and problem solving.

TAX AND SPEND:

Cato suspects that the so-called deficit reduction commission is really a tax hike commission. Of course it is. A commission of Republicans and Democrats will not push for spending cuts. That this panel will recommend serious tax hikes is a fait accompli. This is way for Congress to pass the buck on a future massive tax hike and claim it had bipartisan support.

The problem is not the debt so much as the spending. Being in debt adds additional spending for interest, but other than that, there's is no difference. Government spending, whether paid for by borrowing or taxes, takes the money spent out of the productive economy and reinjects that money in unproductive places, perverting our economy and making us all that much poorer.

HEALTH CARE:

Harry Reid still hasn't unveiled his so-called compromise health care bill. This bill must be the most terrible so far for him to so aggressively hide it from the American people.

Moveon.org lobbies against Reid's bill because it isn't socialist enough. This is good news, but not great news. That's a powerful lobby to join Democrat Party Chairman Dean, but the problem is they have nowhere else to go. They're going to vote for their Democrat incumbents next election anyway. Unions are unhappy with the Senate bill too.

I wonder what two feet of snow in Washington will do to this process. Reid may use this to pass votes with very few senators in secession. A quorum is 51 senators. Republicans can't just boycott.

Just the requirement that insurers must insure anybody no matter of pre-existing conditions will kill the insurance industry.

"To cope with their [government mandated] inability to partition along risk levels, profit-seeking insurance companies must cut costs by excluding the highest-risk patients from insurance. In a free market, these individuals would be offered insurance at a higher premium aligned with their high risk of major claims. In human terms, this leads to the exclusion of people with preexisting conditions and those with significant claims on past insurance plans."

As always government creates the problems it subsequently claims to be solving. By forcing premiums to be the same regardless of risk and forcing insurance companies to insure people with pre-existing conditions and the chronically ill, the payouts of insurance companies will skyrocket. As a result, either premiums will skyrocket or government won't let premiums rise forcing insurance companies into bankruptcy. In practice government will enforce some kind of balance between rising premiums and bankruptcies. This will cause a never-ending spiral of rising costs as insurance companies drop like flies and people opt for the fine instead of paying premiums. Like I always claimed, Democrats designed their health care systems to fail. Both of them set up systems that are designed to fail to Democrats can come back and say they need full blown socialized medicine to fix the failures of the "free market" health care system.

GLOBAL WARMING:

It sounds like nothing binding will come from Copenhagen, thank goodness. Has anybody asked Obama where the Constitution gives government the power to regulate plant food?

"No country is entirely satisfied with each element but this is a meaningful and historic step forward and a foundation from which to make further progress.""

That sounds like spin designed to make Obama look good to his radical leftist base.

"It could pave the way for a full agreement at the summit here, but not a legally binding treaty -- for now."

I think we dodged a bullet, but the relentless march toward world-wide slavery continues. Deal called a failure.

Indian scientist claims satellite found organic matter on the moon. How crazy would that be? He we are poking around Mars, Titan and some other moons, and we might have just found life on our own moon. That would be the biggest discovery in history, but I doubt it would change anything on Earth but for a few lunatics.

House Democrats plan to pass another $75 stimulus boondoggle before Christmas to take more money out of the economy and make it more depressed.

FEDERAL RESERVE:

You know our economy is messed up when good news from the Fed causes stocks to fall. That's because fear of rising interest rates caused investors to shift from stocks to the dollar. Bernanke has painted himself into a corner with this zero percent interest rate. All he can do is raise it and deflate this new, wimpy bubble he created.

Time names Ben Bernanke person of the year.

The jump in producer prices is another sign of inflation.

HEALTH CARE:

Rally against Obamacare in Washington. It sounds pretty impressive for being impromptu. Democrat Party chairman Dean calls for Senators to kill the health care oppression bill. Oddly enough, it's not oppressive enough for him. As many of us predicted, Obama is ripping his own party apart. It isn't just his policies. It's his rule by thuggery approach as well. Obama wants to be a despot, not a president.

Senator Coburn has forced the reading of a 700+ page amendment calling for a single payer system. I know this is only a delaying tactic, but that's valuable. It's a shame Republicans haven't done anything of consequence before this 11th hour and 59th minute maneuver, but I support it anyway. Anything to give the people time to make their senators vote against it.

Apparently Republicans just figured out the Democrats are using bait and switch tactics against them. Apparently with all their other bad attributes, they're not too bright.

Boortz reports that Obama told Senate Democrats this is just the beginning. After they pass this health care bill, they're going to come back and pass an even more oppressive one. That's his sales pitch to bring in the most socialist members of his party, the Deanites, to convince them to support this bill even though it doesn't have the full blown public option.

Super analysis by Cato of the impact a final health care oppression law will have on Americans. I don't like that insurers can drop people if they develop a chronic illness. That's what insurance is for. Dropping somebody because they develop an illness covered by their policy is breach of contract.

Powerful aristocrats from far left districts are happy to sacrifice 20 to 40 Democrat seats to pass health care. Of course they are. Their constituents will love them for it, so why not throw the others under the bus?

TAX AND SPEND:

Between Obama's stimulus boondoggle and the new omnibus spending bill, Democrats have increased spending for federal agencies by 70 percent over two years. And Obama talks about cutting the deficit, and the press never calls him on it.

Even the New York Times recognizes that tax cuts would stimulate the economy while more spending won't. The problem with tax cuts is the deficit and debt balloon before revenues bounce back from a stronger economy, and funding our debt is already taking huge amounts of money out of the private sector. Too bad the author doesn't recommend spending cuts too.

People making over 200,000 a year don't have enough money to fund Democrats' agenda no matter how much you tax them.

Problems caused by government debt. I don't think a bipartisan commission of aristocrats on debt reduction is a good idea at all. Anytime the government does something bipartisanly, the people get screwed double. It's a foregone conclusion that any such panel would recommend new taxes and at best token spending cuts.

Any tax hike, including a VAT tax, won't work because the aristocrats will just keep spending.

FEDERAL RESERVE:

It's not possible for the Fed to make good policy because anything it does to alter the economy from its voluntary state is bad policy. The only thing the Fed could do in our interest is cease to interfere in the economy and then cease to exist. Manipulating interest rates is price fixing, and price fixing is always damaging. Being the lender of last resort protects banks and financial firms from the discipline of the marketplace and rewards them for taking risks they wouldn't take in a voluntary economy.

HEALTH CARE:

The more paternalistic a government becomes, the more aggressive it becomes. For those who think Europe or Canada are exceptions, their history says otherwise, and if the US wasn't fighting in wars all around the world, more European countries would be.

And they pretend taking a dollar from ever person doesn't effect the economy or the lives of the people plundered. It makes the entire country $30 million poorer because it causes resources and workers to be shifted from where they would naturally go to where the $30 million in unnatural spending draws them.
