It is tragic that the Afghanistan war has been relegated to the back page of newspapers.
I don't understand this optimism. I guess it's easy, after four centuries of war, to recognize that governments will run out of money to wage war any day now. But that collapse is going to be horrific, and once it's over, people will repeat the mistakes they've been repeating for millennia. They will create new governments and those new governments will increasingly loot and oppress the people until they collapse the next time around. Granted, a new cycle is not inevitable, but it's about as sure a thing as there is. This isn't something to be optimistic about. The internet is no panacea. It has been co-opted by the NSA. The government can control it at will, and it will.
