"More than 60 percent of first-year students at Dayton, Ohio's Wright State University aren't ready for college-level reading, writing, or math. Starting in fall 2012, Wright State will send most "developmental education" students to nearby Clark State Community College or Sinclair Community College."How many things are wrong with this situation. First, mandatory government schools are graduating lots of people who can't read. I see it every week. People just can't read. They say they don't like to read, but that's because reading is hard for them because government schools failed them. Second, colleges are accepting students who can't read. This is absurd. Third, taxpayers are having to pay colleges for remedial reading classes. I'm sure it's the same for writing and arithmetic. This is a government-created disaster.
