Trotwood and Dayton cops credit red light cameras with reducing accidents, but I'm skeptical. What's the mechanism? People don't jump out and hit others who are racing to beat a red light. I think there are fewer accidents because fewer people are on the roads because of the bad economy and high gas prices.
Another weakness of our electric grid is downed poles cutting power. If power was generated locally or routed underground, there would be no downed poles or wires ever.
